History

Established in 2001.

Chris and Steve Hazell started Alter Ego in 2001 making use of Chris’s background in small retail business and her love of costume and fancy dress. The business began with 350 costumes in one shop in Westbourne, Bournemouth and expanded to Dorchester in 2004. There are now about 1200 costumes for hire from a single premises in Dorchester.

Business Owner

Chris has a family background of small retail business and was brought up serving in shops and counting the change for the till. She also has long experience of making costumes for amateur dramatics, dressing up, school productions etc. After a short career in teaching, she decided to go back to retail and worked as a charity shop manager before starting her own fancy dress business with husband Steve. She has found herself surprised over recent years at the amount of time a modern business requires to be spent at the computer screen.
