Modern-style pub with a huge selection of real ales(some on tap, many more — especially Belgian and American ales — from the bottle). You can read the latest selections from the chalkboards above the bar(see photo). The(Brewery) Tap appeals to the younger folk through its modern, no-nonsense, mostly bright décor, light wood dominates. The bar staff, too, are mostly young-ish, and generally very knowledgeable about the ales — as far as this is possible given the vast range. Prices, as one would expect, aren’t on the low end for Derby. This place gets very busy on weeknights and, predictably, weekends. Not the coziest pub to hang out at in Derby, but one of the more stylish. Generally, I’d still prefer The Silk Mill as far as upmarket pubs are concerned, especially for their lovely food. The(Brewery) Tap ist located a five minute walk from the city centre, and about the same distance to the central bus station.

While not exactly a traditional pub in appearance internally it does look rather nice and the laid back atmosphere made it a pleasant place to hang around for seconds(helpings that is… not the unit of time). They have an after work drinkers club for locals that seemed like a tremendous idea that more pubs should follow. The best of my beers was the Quint Essential. Stronger than I like in the afternoon, at all of 5.8pc, but a delicious beer worth the additional inebriation.

This is one of my favourite pubs. Lots of great beer with specials like kirin ichiban a japanese one, or schneider weisse, a german one. Nice garden outside and on the top. Nice menu with special food as well. Great place in summer.

This is one of my favourite bars in Derby has a good selection of beers, ciders and ales, and the décor is a good blend of traditional & contemporary. They have friendly staff that have good knowledge of the beers and are happy to give recommendations. The drinks aren’t cheap but they you can get student discount to get selected £2.00 pints and they have a really good roof terrace overlooking the river which is great in the summer. The cheese/beer board are good value and are a good way to try a few of the different ales. The bar is usually fairly quite in the week and is usual filled with older clientele but is one of the best places for a drink in the town centre.

Excellent new-ish pub, and a much needed addition to the Derby scene. At least 5 ales on tap, with a selection of five 1⁄3 pints + cheese available for £5. Review is for the beer and bar only, we found the food very average, needs improvement.

A new name for the old standard inn. A pub here in Derby with a selection of micro brewery beers. All in a nice pub just on the edge of the town centre. Food very nice indeed.

This is the former Royal Standard which has reopened as The Brewery Tap. I wanted to give it 5 stars but unfortunately I cannot. Trevor who used to own the Brunswick has refurbished this pub and is brewing offsite(the Derby Brewing Company) and selling his beers here, normally 5 different brews at any time and this along with 5 guest beers should make this a brilliant place to drink. Sadly, in my view, the refurbishment has not been done sympathetically, most obviously in the floodlighting that envelops the whole pub. That said, I will be a regular visitor just to sample the beers.
