The tower of the ‘old’ cathedral, St Michael’s tower was miraculously left standing as bombs rained down around it, destroying the roof and much of the fabric of the rest of the cathedral. The tallest of the famous three spires of Coventry, you can now climb the tower for the very reasonable sum of £2.50. Be warned, it is a lot of steps to the top, and if you aren’t massively fit you might find it hard work(children are allowed to climb, but I wouldn’t recommend it — the steps are steep and there’s no way you could carry them up or down if they tired), but it is well worth to hard slog up there for the magnificent views from the top. Whether you are looking for local landmarks, or just want a vista of the city(it looks surprisingly pretty from all the way up there), you will find the sites awesome. On clear days you can see to Birmingham and beyond. Definitely worth the effort
