We recently visited the Red Lion on a Sunday as a group of 9 including a baby, after they crammed us onto a table in the corner with no room to get in and out and giving us a highchair which wouldn’t fit facing into the table. When we dedided to order we all thought the steaks were a bit pricey so we’d go for something cheaper, the food was ok but not great, i had a cheese burger which came with about 6 chips and a bit of lettuce inside the burger, and everyone else agreed that there was no thought gone into the cooking just food plonked on a plate. When we all finished to save us from claustrophobia we all moved outside(we let the waitress know that we were going), after about half an hour a few decided to have a pudding, they ordered and asked if it could be added to the bill, the waitress said oh are you the family from inside yes seeing as you hadn’t bothered with us for the last hour and a half we could of done a runner and you wouldn’t of noticed, when the puddings came one of them the glass bowl was all sticky on the outside and smelt disgusting as if it was put in a just used bowl. That was sent back and when we told the waitress to smell it she was nearly sick! Our kids enjoyed it though great garden and good play area.

I visited this Pub recently with my son to enjoy a meal after work. I have been here many times before, over quite a few years. My son ordered a 10oz rump steak, and after been told the pork loin displayed on the specials board was not available, I also settled for the same steak. Both were ordered as medium rare and were what I consider to be restaurant prices. After about 15 – 20 mins the said meals arrived. The steaks we so well done they would have given a good 12 months wear if I had nailed them onto the soles of my shoes. My son decided not to complain, as he was hungry, but I went to complain straight away and had it taken away, only to wait another 15 – 20 minuts while my son ate his meal. When my meal finally returned it wasn’t much better still quite medium to well done. I reluctantly ate it as I too was hungry and did not want to wait any longer. The steaks were very thin, so probably easy to over cook. The steak came with a bowl of chips, some chopped mushrooms and half an under ripe tomato, for £12.90 very poor value for money and lacking any presentation or imagination, even if the steak was cooked right. I did make one big mistake going there, I should have gone to the Bull and Butcher up the road, as there meals are much better and cheaper too. It was just the fact that their car park was full, and would have found it difficult to park, that made me want to try the Red Lion again. Well this experience will certainly make me think not to return here in a hurry. Poor food at inflated prices, no thank you.

Always full regardless of the day of the week, the season or the general mood — the Red Lion is a great place for a ridiculously large pub meal for the price of a regular sized one elsewhere. Not that there’s any quality lost in that. Its fresh and good and is very much the go-to place for locals if the cupboard is bare or if Dad Needs Beer. The burgers are huge and locally named(the Godiva burger — with nothing on), and other standouts are the fishcakes, garlic mushrooms and half a pound of Quigley’s pork sausages in a yorkshire pud. Yum yum yum. Nothing overly special, but keenly priced and well worked.
