History

Established in 2007.

Chishin Dojo was formed in June 2007 with Hiroshi Ikeda sensei kindly giving our dojo its name and interpreting this as «know one’s self, one’s heart; to (get to) know another person’s heart — to connect heart-​to-​heart.» We are located in Coventry, not too far from the city centre.

In June 2013 we moved to our own full time premises.

If I were to pick one teacher over all others to list as my main influence it would unquestioningly be Hiroshi Ikeda sensei. I first met Ikeda sensei 15 years ago travelling over to see him after everything I’d heard and seen of him. I wanted to grab hold of his wrist and see if he could do to me the things he was doing to everyone else in a video so easily and seemingly without a great deal of effort or movement… Suffice to say, I grabbed, I fell, I grabbed harder, I fell harder, I looked confused, he laughed! All these years later and I am still feeling the same things and he is still, to me at least, one of the few Aikido teachers who is advancing the art of Aikido — taking it to new places and seeking new heights. If you never trained with Ikeda sensei — please go and grab hold of the man. He will change your perception of what Aikido is with no shadow of doubt.
