If you’re walking near Rivington Pike then the Yew Tree is really close by — it’s popular though as many of the tables were reserved when we arrived bang on noon on a Sunday (despite there being hardly anyone in).
There were some small tables towards the back though, nicely tucked away, so we plonked ourselves down here for lunch after a very wet and windswept walk.
Their menu is full of the usual dishes you’d expect from a gastro pub, with starters ranging between £3−6 and main courses £12−20. I opted for their Hot Rump Steak Sandwich with fries from their Bar Menu (£8.75).
It took rather a long time to be served; whether the kitchen couldn’t cope with the influx of diners or there was a big issue we weren’t sure. The steak sandwich was alright, but nothing much to write home about. We were so hungry that we wolfed what we’d ordered down.
They serve a couple of locally brewed beers here too — Rivington has it’s own brewery.
Nice enough, but if we were in the area again, we’d probably drive a little further out to try somewhere else.

Three of us headed here after a soggy walk up to Rivington Pike. We walked in the door on a Sunday at noon and were greeted slightly begrudgingly by staff who didn’t seem thrilled to serve customers. Anyway, despite not booking we were shown a table at the back.
The kitchen apparently wasn’t open yet but we took the time to change out of our wet walking gear and order some drinks at the bar. The coffee was surprisingly good and the beer selection was nice and local.
We were finally allowed to order food at the bar and the guy serving was friendly and helpful. He was one of the few who actually seemed to be doing any work. Despite only ordering a soup, a sandwich and a sausage, our food took over 30 minutes to arrive and I had to ask them where it was. My soup was tasty although verging on cold and the two lumps of hard bread looked more like giant croutons. I asked for an additional slice of bread and was promptly brought it without any fuss or extra cost which was great.
The food on the menu wasn’t cheap but it seems to be of a very high standard. The menu is huge for a Sunday menu which might explain why it took so long for it to be prepared. Overall it was a nice pub that potentially thinks a little too highly of itself. But tasty, none the less.

We’ve had a lovely Sunday lunch here today. Family of four, 2 adults and 2 children aged 2&4. The food was excellent, served quickly, children’s mains came with our starter as requested and staff really friendly especially to the kids. All in all really enjoyed it, two, two course Sunday roasts, two kids meals, two glasses of wine and two drinks for the kids final bill a shade under £50 which I thought was really good value.

Pretty poor experience. Miserable, in attentive staff. Red hot plates brought to young children. Plenty of staff but not interested in customer service. Thirty minutes before going to table despite being on time and a further twenty minutes before we got food. We even gave up after twenty minutes of trying to pay the bill and went to the bar ourselves. A pub trying to be gastro but not well, food was ok but small pricey portions are covered up by artful arrangements. Pretty disappointed as not child friendly and not entirely customer friendly!

Visited again for the second time, having had a good experience on the first visit.
However the second visit demonstrated some of the worst service from a front of house I have ever seen.
We arrived 10 minutes prior to our table booking 3 pm, we was directed to our table by the point of a finger from across the bar at 20 past 3.
4 more tables were seated after ourselves (by people who we had seen arrive after us) there orders were then taken prior to us.
We requested our child meal to come with our starter. The starters arrived 15 minutes after our child’s meal.
After all the people who had arrived and seated after us had been fed and left we eventually got our mains 1 hr and 50 minutes later.
The front of house asked if there were any problems and when I discussed the issues, came across with multiple excuses and with no interest in giving any form of apology, and in fact made it feel like we had been a inconvienience and not a customer.

This is a traditional pub serving an upmarket take on traditional pub grub. The atmosphere is relaxed with staff friendly and professional. Food is very good with decent portion sizes. Very good experience!

This is one of our favourite restaurants. The service, food and ambiance are first class, we have never had a bad meal here, in the all the years we’ve been going.
It is not a cheap night out — but you get what you pay for. The quality of the food, the presentation and service are always good — all locally sourced which is good for the area and local businesses.
We go to The Yew Tree for special occasions, we always book in advance, and we ask for a table on the balcony, because yes, it can get a little hot in the main part of the restaurant near the kitchen but I do like watching the two main chefs.
They have a good selection of wines, and if you have a brandy after the meal, you get your own brandy warmer! lovely

Yes, you can see the chef at work — which then leaves your clothes smelling of food, we needed to dry clean everything we were wearing.
The food and service were poor.
Very expensive for what it is. I will never visit there again.

I have visited the Yew Tree on many occasions with family and friends and I can’t fault the place. We have never been disappointed with the quality and presentation of the food. The staff are always helpful and pleasant. The restaurant has a lovely warm atmosphere making you feel quite at home. I never worry about recommending it to anyone as I know they will enjoy it as much as I do.

The Yew Tree pub/restaraunt is one of my favourite places to go for a special treat with my family and friends.
The Yew Tree pub/restaraunt is a traditional country pub and boasts an open fire, which is welcome on an icy day after rambling. Awards are displayed on the walls as this is an award winning pub. It has beams and traditonal furnishings which I think make the ambience appealing.
The atmosphere is very friendly and you recieve a warm welcome from all of the staff. Once you have been a few times they really do remember you, which is nice.
The service is of a high standard and the food is excellent with a good menu, all freshly prepared on site. If you sit in the restaraunt you can watch the chef at work in the open kitchen area. Variations of dishes may be able to be catered for if you ask.
The toilets are very clean and there is a selection of hand washes and toileteries to use whilst in the powder room.
The car park is at the front and to the side of the pub/restaraunt.
I would advise booking in advance for larger parties or evening meals in the restaraunt as the Yew Tree is very popular.
I would highly recommend The Yew Tree, situated in beautiful scenery too. a comfortable, friendly country pub with a very high standard of service and food and drinkTheakstons is on offer too.

Situated near the famous Rivington Pike, this lovely restaurant has been serving fine foods for many years. Fresh seasonal, locally sourced produce served to the highest of standards. You will find that there is an extensive menu catering for Sunday Lunch for the family, to an intimate dinner for two. Always a favourite for our family when there is a special occasion, we have never been able to fault the food or the service.
