Today is Mother’s Day. I’ve travelled all the way up from London to surprise my mum and treat her for a weekend. We have just had brunch in slug and lettuce to which we were both extremely disappointed. We order Pimms which didn’t have half the fruit and garnish it should have, we ordered two eggs royal which turns out to be over cooked, the egg a solid microwaved mass of rubber on a chewy muffin. To share we ordered waffles and bacon and the eggs again were solid and unappetising, the waffle was rock hard and the eggs with no liquid yolk. The waiter who served us was clearly rushed off his feet, he also looked scruffy and unkempt with dyed red spiked hair and an off white shirt. Half the menu was out of stock, attention to detail was missing. We order tea for afters which we had to ask for milk and sugar after waiting for 10 minutes. The only reason for a 1 star rating is out of pity. With other Restaurants to chose from within a stones throw such as Bills & Copa I would strongly suggest going else where. I’ve had a better breakfast experience at a wetherspoons! Not what I expected. To add insult to injury as we are waiting for our plates to be collected smoke bellows from the kitchen. Great stuff!

As an American I probably cannot review this place properly, but it’s a nice stand by when the local flavor is «full up» A well selected wine offering and really no matter the crowd somebody is going to find something on the menu that they like. A gracious and generous happy hour put two rounds in front of most of us, and that’s perfect for us as U.K. table service is less than speedy.

Tonight my friends and I wanted to revisit this place, considering last time the kitchens were closed! Well frankly, they could have been closed tonight as the meal I had, although aesthetically pleasing, didn’t tingle my taste buds. I opted for the French Burger tonight with sweet potato fries(see my picture). The burger resembled the frozen cheap type, although it was large, it had nothing in it that made you want to eat more. The bun was cold as if it had just come out of the fridge too. The cheese inside wasn’t melted and the onions were dry and piled so much that they oozed out of the side. Initially the sweet potato fries really made the meal, however they became more greasy as I worked my way down the bowl. The coldslaw was completely smothered sauce of which most was left for dipping the fries. The menu is really delightful and varied so I am disappointed with these burgers. The only saving grace was the 25% off I received! I will return as the service was good, table service this time rather than order at the bar. And there are many other things to try on the menu, I’ll just stay clear from the burgers! Even my friends feel the same!

The Slug and Lettuce in Cheltenham is a lovely little place, with a real fun and friendly atmosphere. They serve good, yet reasonably priced food, although the drinks can often be on the expensive side. They often have live music entertainment and these are usually well chosen and go down very well with the regulars. Sunday nights are, in my humble opinion, by far the best in the Slug for a night out — they have the band Duke playing every week and they are AMAZING! Definitely worth going to see if you’re ever at a loose end on a sunday night. The best bit about the Slug in Cheltenham is the staff — all young, quirky and very friendly. You can tell they’re all having a great time and this usually rubs off on the punters!

Reasonable chain pub in the centre of town. Good food menu, some vegetarian choice, mainly modern, Mediterranean-influence cuisine. The bar can get quite busy in the evenings, especially at weekends. Occasional live music, but it doesn’t really work because people go there to talk and drink, not listen. Good place to go for lunch when out shopping.

Nice pub in the centre of Cheltenham with a good atmosphere and normal selection of drinks. The bar area can get a little busy but there are quite a few tables you can claim away from it. Not much room for smokers as the bouncers try to contain you on a two metre deep strip outside the front. Slightly pricey but worth it for one of the few really good pubs in Cheltenham.
