I queued for 20 mins yesterday and left empty handed — the staff looked busy but busy doing what, i couldn’t actually tell as no-one was being served. The chiller cabinet in WHSmiths next door was stacked with cheaper sarnies too.

I’ve had mixed experiences with this branch of Upper Crust. Some have been good and others, well, not so good, but it’s sometimes the only thing open that’s close to the station for you to grab a quick coffee. I’m usually disappointed by the lack of variety for vegetarians when it comes to choosing a baguette filling and what I have had has been really quite bland. Convenience wise, great. Otherwise, go elsewhere.

Most people who travel around the UK using the trains will be familiar with Upper Crust bakeries. There are in station atriums and even on platforms. Although their coffee is not wonderful by any stretch of the imagination, they win points on location alone. No one can deny that they’re certainly handy(although, I know that’s the entire point). So when you’re cold and stranded, they may be the ones who provide hot chocolate and human contact. The sandwiches and baguettes here, I have to confess, I like very much indeed. They are crispy and fresh and in general go down a treat. They also sell sausage rolls and other tempting yummies. My one major qualm with Upper Crust is that their bananas cost 60p each, which does seem a tad extravagant to me.
