I’ve had my hair cut at this branch of Toni & Guy several times, and I’ve always been happy with the service and the cut. Unlike several other city centre salons, the staff here don’t seem to spend the majority of their time complaining unprofessionally about other colleagues in front of their customers — always a bonus! A hair cut here doesn’t come cheap, so if you’re on a tight budget you might have to seek out one of the trendy student-oriented salons over in the Cathays or Roath areas of the city — but if you can afford it, the Toni & Guy brand does instil confidence. Thanks to their brand I’m sure they’re successful wherever they open a salon — but it’s still down to individual staff at each branch to make the experience live up to customers’ expectations. Luckily this Cardiff branch seems to be well-run, and apart from having to wait for 15 minutes after my appointment time for the consultation to start, I have no complaints.

Hairdresses generally scare me. I dread having to get my hair cut because I still have flashbacks of terrible cuts of my teen years. Sadly this Toni and Guy has done nothing to ease my fears. I appreciate that it all depends on who cuts your hair but I’ve had my hair cut here twice and one time I got home and had a bit of a cry about my hair cut. I know I should have had the courage to say something there and then but I was living in hope it would settle into something nice. On that occasion the stylist really didn’t listen to what I wanted and turned my request for an easy to manage haircut into a bit of mess! The salon is pretty big and I felt quite exposed really. I liked the massage chairs while they wash your hair but thats about it. Maybe its just more cut our for edgy, fearless types of cut but I won’t go back there now. Cheapest wash and cuts costs about £35.
