History

Established in 2008.

Established in June 2008, Tans & Hands is a unisex beauty, nail and tanning salon in the Cathays area of Cardiff. Handily located at the top of Crwys Road, we are easy to reach by foot, car or bus from the centre of Cardiff

Inside the salon, you’ll find an open, friendly atmosphere, where staff greet you warmly and are trained to make sure that your visit is as relaxing as possible. Our regular cleaning routines ensure a fresh, hygienic environment for each and every client

The salon is owned and managed by Katy, together with her very able team of qualified beauty therapists and nail technicians

On the 19/10/2019, me and my friend went to go and get our nails done (hand and feet), we were both treated by a lovely woman who did them really well. However, prior to us leaving, the manager (Rhian) had lost a nail varnish and then proceeded to accuse us of STEALING the nail varnish by saying to us that she was going to need to look at the cameras. Me and my friend were mortified to be accused of something SO ridiculous, it was obvious that it had just been misplaced. Although we did offer for her to look into our bags just to prove that we had not taken it at all. She checked the cameras to see that we obviously hadn't taken it, and DID NOT apologise for the accusation. We will not be revisiting the salon, which is such a shame as we had such a lovely experience with the woman who did our nails. We do not feel like we were treated with any respect by the manager.

A nice place and friendly staff, but I felt a bit shortchanged for my £23 I spent on a pedicure. Other places (like the sadly closed Sugar) I’ve paid less and had lots more done on the rest of my feet, but here they pretty much did a brief soak and a shape & paint, with a little bit of cuticle-​pushing. I think I might go elsewhere for pedis in the future!

I’ve been coming here for the last 3 years, wouldn’t trust anyone else for my tan or nails. The tans are a lovely natural colour and fade really evenly. I used to be a terrible nail biter, but I’ve been having the shellac on my nails for the last 10 months and what a transformation! I actually have fingers like a lady now! Recommended A**

Love, love, love this place! It has such a chilled out atmosphere — you can’t beat it! The reviews on Qype were one of the reasons I chose this particular salon, so thought I’d better put my review forward now I have been, which will hopefully help others! I went in at the end of August for a Minx Pedicure — if Minx is good enough for the likes of Beyonce & Lady Gaga, it’s good enough for me ;o) and I’m thrilled with it!!! 8 weeks later and the Minx is still on, as good as the day it was applied (albeit with a bit of a growth gap now!!) it’s lasted a holiday in Egypt as well as being squashed into every sort of shoe imaginable in the last few weeks, I’m so impressed, and the lady was so patient with me whilst I ummmed and ahhhed over all the different designs! I’m booked in next week to have them redone with one of the new Xmas designs — can’t wait!!! My advice QYPE users? Look no further, you’ve found your salon!

Tanning and beauty salons are, largely, the sole preserve of the female. They are feminine affairs, made with feminine concerns in mind. There is a certain kind of man who can enter a beauty salon and not feel that special kind of intimidation that only comes when you’re thoroughly out of your depth in an alien atmosphere.
I am not one of those men.
This is why I was exceptionally pleased with my treatment when I entered Tans and Hands.
It was my girlfriend’s birthday looming up, and she wanted something incomprehensible done to her skin that I, as a man, couldn’t even half understand. She’d sigh wistfully as she walked past Tans and Hands, hoping that one day she might get the chance to have it done.
I, being a boyfriend, leapt into action. I would get her a Gift Certificate! That would give her what she wanted, and also had a little benefit for me if she ended up looking even more radiant. Armed with this knowledge, I stormed in and quickly tripped over my own words.
I hadn’t a clue what she actually wanted.
Sure, she mentioned it to me in passing, but going into a tanning salon and saying «my girlfriend wants you to do something to her skin», accompanying the sentence with vague hand waves isn’t going to get you very far. Happily though, they saw my predicament and guided me gently through the experience.

This place competes with Skin «n» Tonic for the day spa style business. They have a good pedigree «being featured in GQ magazine».
Get your self a gift voucher to spoil the other half with. There are many treatments on offer and if you have never tried it before I would recommend you do.
I don’t feel the need to have beauty treatments, but I get the idea of being pampered like a star celebrity.

I’ve recently gone down to this place because we have a cheerleading competition (Nationals! Goodness me, please wish us luck!) and it is almost compulsory to have a strong tan.
My only slight problem with the place is that it is not quite as cheap as I would hope it would be (£10 for a spray tan just for the legs) but this is more than made up for by the excellent service.
I felt completely at ease — and also felt quite important! It was quite celebrity-​like really — being treated like a star and coming out looking all bronzed and fabulous.
They offer a wide range of service: waxing, massages, eye treatments, even ‘pamper parties’ for children (hmm, not sure quite how I feel about this actually…). They do all the treatments for both men and women — why not make it your next date-​spot?!

I had THE best manicure at the Tans & Hands Nail Bar. I didn’t have an appointment but they managed to squeeze me in before I had to leave Cardiff for the weekend, which was very nice of them.
The nail bar has all sorts of coloured polishes avaliable both to use for your manicure /​pedicure and for purchase.
The weekends and evenings (they are open until 7pm!!) are usually pretty booked up and so I’d recommend reserving your slot a couple of days on advance. Closed on Sundays, the rest of the week is pretty easy for walk-​ins (during the day, that is).
I have now become a regular and have never had a bad experience here (either with the staff or the owner, who is such a darling!) and would highly suggest this place to anyone in need of a nail salon.
