Goleulong 2000 Lightship

very good place to visit and go in and out the various decks, including the engine room whichdoesn’thaveengines, as the ship was towed into position and anchored; if I remember correctly this one was ancored somewhere around Swansea…

I have to admit i didn’t know that this ship /​café had any religious connotations at all — so that’s why they have a crucifix painted on the light house section — d’oh!
Know i have read that most people working on the ship is an unpaid volunteer I feel slightly bad for saying this — anyhow — I recently went on board just to get a couple of cold drinks during a hot bank holiday Monday. The service was swift but I sadly wasn’t tempted to try any of the food as it looked a little lifeless and prepared in what is a slightly decrepit seemingly unhygienic galley. I’m not saying it is unclean its just that the ship has obviously seen better days and its interior felt worn and less than ship shape and shiny.
But this is not a good reason not to sit on the top deck with a cold drink and enjoy the sunshine, whilst pretending to be at sea — so we did.

A church situated in Cardiff Bay, almost doesn’t seem quite right really… Since it is such a touristy area and churches are normally based within a housing environment. But this is no ordinary church…
It does have worship services and it is a religiously run building, it is not a church that has been taken over and that has become just a shop, a selling point. It maybe a crafty, pretty, gallery used, and a café used building, but at heart it is still religious and Norwegian. Holy Communion services are performed here weekly.
Often it is visited along the waterfront of Cardiff Bay and it’s a great place to relax within, or to sit outside in and to eat and drink in with friends and family. We regularly visit this church as we walk around the Bay as it is so hard not to resist doing so.
Trinity House commissioned it during 1953 and then it was brought over to Cardiff in 1993. So really, it is in excellent condition as a fully furbished building, considering how far it has travelled and due to the fact that it has been carted from place to place so well at all. I recommend it be a must visit to all tourists.

In the summer, the upper deck area provides a space to watch the world and his mistress go by, as the politicians of the assembly government, the businesses and the torchwood tourists mill around the area.
The food is reasonable, and dirt cheap. The spuds can be hit and miss, but I would well recommend the butties.
Of special note it’s worth going down into the chapel, which is truly beautiful. Worship is 1315 on Wednesdays, in a variety of traditions — the chaplain is URC, but various local ministers are involved.

The Goleulong 2000 Light Ship is home to the Churches of Wales, and hosts a range of religious services including a place for worship and counselling, as well as a venue for temporary exhibitions and conferences.
It’s not the most exciting attraction ever in Cardiff, but it’s worth a passing look just out of curiosity if you’re already in the docks area!
If you’re not attending an event or exhibition there, you can still go on board and explore the ship, which only takes about half an hour in total — and admission is free. There’s also a café on board, which is cheap and offers somewhere a bit different to enjoy a cuppa in the Bay. Worth a quick nose around!

I did not know this about the permanently docked Goleulong, but besides being a café/​ship it is also a place Christians can worship. Be thankful I avoided several painful puns there.
But yea, as I said I didn’t know that and just went to have a look at the café. We got a sandwich and tea, served from a lovely woman. It was really cheap aswell and you couldn’t ask for a better setting on a warm day.
If you have little’uns then it is free to access the ship and take a look around. It isn’t suitable though for wheelchairs and anyone who has problems with stairs etc. Be careful if you do.

A great attraction for kids.
Kids love roaming around the ship and visiting all the different parts of it.
Not suitable for disabled access due to the uneven surfaces and many steps and stairs.
Admission onto the ship is free but will only keep children occupied for around 30 minuets.
A good visit on a hot day.

Like the previous reviewer, I love this unusual place. Its dark wooden interior provides a very welcome break from the soulless shopping centre. Its distinctive interior is plastered with old advertising hoards for Sunlight Soap and Wills Gold Flake cigarettes, a time that harks back to a slightly gentler age of consumerism. The toasted paninis here are popular with the lunchtime crowd who also have a choice of lasagne, filled baguettes, sandwiches and cake
With an extensive coffee menu offering expressos, lattes, cappuccino, macchiatos and the most enormous, creamy hot chocolates, it’s no surprise that its’ always busy in here. Service is friendly but efficient and prices are OK. I paid £2.10 for a hot choc which I thought a bit pricey until I saw the size of it! My jacket potato also came with a very generous amount of filling, just the thing to fortify you for more retail therapy!

Commonly known as the light ships is anchored permanantly in cardiff bay. With anborard café selling hot & cold food, its a christian ship which also has a prayer room.

If this floating café is anything to go by, there’s something in the Christian religion that prevents them from making food interesting.
Yes it’s very honestly priced (ie. cheap) but the choice of sandwiches and snacks is dull and tasteless. It’s a shame because on a sunny day, sitting up on deck (on the cheap luxury-​free plastic seats) gives you one of the best views of the Bay you can get.

All aboard! If you’re bored of the usual café settings, why not give the Goleulong (Light ship) a try. The picturesque settings are splendid for a lemonade and sandwich on the top deck. A great place to watch the world go by and spend a lazy afternoon.
The ship also doubles up as a place of worship and has dedicated prayer rooms and small chapel onboard.

This is a lovely place to visit, A floating church, and also a café. It is open to anyone regardless of religion. One can climb aboard and have a cuppa and snack at very reasonable cost. The people are lovely, friendly and helpful. You can visit the cabins, go up the light tower (mind your head) and even look at the little chapel on board. They will cater for services on board. It is located in the heart of Cardiff Bay near the Norweigan church the surroundin are is thriving, with shops restaurants and pubs. But there are also lovely tranquil places. Like this one.
