Coming from Cwmbran with only a tiny Vue to go to if I want to watch a film, moving to Cardiff was worth it just for Cineworld.
~ Atmosphere:
This place is flat-​out huge. Multiple floors and omg, Martyn G. are you kidding me? They have a freaking BAR too? Unfortunately I haven’t had the pleasure but when I come back next I’ll definitely check it out. Honestly, it’s no understatement when saying that the atmosphere here is great. Escalators to take you throughout the cinema, an arcade, snack bar, etc. I’ve never been to a cinema this impressive!
~ Customer Service:
Another plus to Cineworld. From my experience, the customer service here was great. Going from the cashier giving us our tickets, to the man at the concession stand, to even the ticket-​rippers; everyone here was so friendly. Oh, and the man at the concession stand wasn’t afraid of telling off a group of unruly teenagers — SCORE!
~ Value for Money:
I don’t feel that the tickets at Cineworld are too expensive; in fact, they’re actually much cheaper than Vue. I do understand though that some people are frugal when it comes to watching films at the cinema because it’s overpriced, but I didn’t feel ripped off at all.
~ Inside the Theatre:
I’m not sure about all the screens, but the one we went inside was relatively small compared to some other cinemas I’ve been to. However, the screen was still large enough, there was just noticeably limited seating. I don’t mind this fact because it’s less of a chance for disturbances but it depends on what you’re looking for. The seats were very comfortable and the interior clean. One thing I would’ve liked though is for the row letters to be lit before the movie starts (turned off during the film of course). Was really awkward trying to find my seat in the dark.

I’m usually not someone who loves to see a film in theaters unless it’s a huge movie. However, Cineworld might just have turned that opinion around. Did I mention that it’s also smack dab in the city centre so you have your choice of restaurants to make a date of it?

A tad expensive, considering the new one in town is only £4 a seat for any film… I really hope they catch up.
That said, always clean and right next door to fed… yum

Took ages to get served by Richard who looked like working there was boring. Although he did his job efficiently the tills took forever to process our tickets and transactions, 2 of which were unlimited cards and the other 2 were card payments.
Apart from that it’s a good cinema with nice large screen, loads of seating space in the screens even when packed usually. Food, snacks and drinks are a bit expensive as usual with a standard hotdog at just over £4 and packet of M&M’s at £2:80, but have paid more in some other cinemas.
Would recommend this cinema as its good value for money especially if you buy the Cineworld unlimited card whee you can see as many films as you want anytime for £14:99 per month. 3D films cost an additional £1:50 plus 80p for the glasses.

Big screen. Big sound.

Cinema, sweets, arcade games and the choice of an alcoholic beverage with your film. Seems like a good cinema to me :)

One of the best cinemas i have ever had the pleasure of going to. The entrance is tiny and quite misleading because once your in you realise that this is as modern and vast as a cinema can be.
Amazing amounts of leg room, great sized screens and just everything was immaculate. This experience reminds me why i love going out to the movies. The company wasn’t bad either! My girlfriend and I have already picked out what we’ll be seeing together next and it will be here i am sure of that.

Cineworld is located right next to what is fast becoming the hub of Cardiff activities– St David’s 2. It’s spacious inside and always fairly busy. I generally prefer a cinema to be quiet, like the Vue next to the stadium but on occasion it’s nice to be in a busy cinema to make it seem more of an event. I did that for the most recent Tarantino film and it was good to share the experience with a full room of people, rather than an empty room.
It’s got everything you’d expect from a cinema — outrageously priced popcorn, nachos, hot dogs, sweets a games room, bar etc. Ticket prices are expensive everywhere. but this one is one of the cheaper cinemas around.
If you do head there check if I’ve still got the Pac-​Man highscore!

I’m making a bold statement here, perhaps, but I would say this is the best mainstream cinema in Cardiff. Cinema prices are not cheap anymore, but Cineworld still offers one of the cheaper ticket prices.
Set across four floors and around 14 screens (I think) any blockbuster films is bound to be being played here. They also play some alternative, foreign, or arthouse films, but its best to check on their website. Though, if your trips to the cinema are solely for alternative and arthouse films and you have lived a life devoid of the brilliance of Die Hard then somewhere like the Chapter Arts Centre may be a better bet.
Top tip: You can buy tickets from any counter around the cinema (except the bar), so if the queue is too long for your liking at the main ticket cash tills then head up a couple of levels and surprise someone that’s selling popcorn with the fact that you are part of the exclusive club that knows this valuable secret.

Cineworld is in an ideal location for all customers. It sits right next to the St David’s 2 shopping mall. So when you have done all that shopping of yours and you have a bit more money to spare then it’s definitely worth checking out this cinema and of course the film you want to see.
When you enter this cinema you are immediately struck with the sense of how clean it is. Everything looks shiny and dirt free. For me this is a great first impression. You feel that the rest of the cinema would be like this. I also like the service you get too, the employees are friendly and like to involve their knowledge on the film you’re seeing. It can get very busy and certain days like the dreaded ‘orange Wednesday’ so I would book earlier in the day if you were seeing a film in the evening. It can be cheap on which days you choose to go and what times. Tuesdays is ‘cheap Tuesdays’ with tickets only being £4.50. What I like about Cineworld is the range of films they show. Where as a lot of other cinemas only show major blockbuster films, Cineworld shows both blockbuster and art house films so it appeals to a much wider audience.
Cienworld is a good cinema to visit for a night out or after shopping in the afternoon. My only problem with it are the way they display certain films. If a film is not shot in widescreen then they display the film as it is with blurry edges that are off putting for me. Besides that, this is a good strong cinema worth visiting.

A large cinema situated next to St Davids 2, this is my cinema of choice when I want to catch a flick or two. This cinema can get very busy, even in the day time due to its central location, so be prepared to get there early if you’re a fan of those annoying Orange ads and other pre film faff.
Being a rather large cinema, it has 5 floors, mainly consisting of cinema screens, naturally, but also 2 bars if you fancy an alcoholic beverage before your film or to even take in with you.
Packed with your expected confectionary outlets, they also serve up hot food like nachos and hot dogs.
I personally have bought the unlimited cinema card which costs me £13.50 a month to see as many films as I like, with prices reaching an extortionate £7 for a film in the evening, this has been the best way to go to satisfy my movie craving.

Cineworld is located right by the newly renovated St David’s 2, just opposite the Cardiff International Arena.
Boasting an impressive 14 screens, this cinema is by far the best place to go and watch the latest films to hit the box office.
With four floors, including a bar area that offers a pool table and lounge facilities, Cineworld is much more than your average cinema. They have also recently introduced a new ‘Unlimited’ scheme that allows members the use of unlimited screenings, exclusive food and drinks offers, as well as preferential advanced screenings prior to many film releases. However membership isn’t cheap, but if you regularly attend the cinema then it can save you a lot of money in the long run.
Also, Cineworld have been pioneers of 3D technology being one of the first venues to show 3D films in Wales. They even screened the Wales/​England 2010 Six Nations rugby clash in 3D, which was a strange but very enjoyable experience, with a fun-​filled atmosphere; although it was quite surreal to look back at a crowd of rugby fans all looking like bad Buddy Holly impersonators.
With comfy seating, plenty of screens and good facilities, Cineworld is a great place to enjoy a quality film.

There have been some great movies released in the last 20 years, and I’ve been lucky enough to see some of them in the cinema. Unfortunately for me, and I imagine for a lot of people, there were a lot of even greater films released in the last 20 years that I was too young to see at the time. And there were many more that were in the cinema before I was born. Out of my top 10 films, I think I only saw one in the cinema when it was released. Obviously I’ve got them all on DVD and I’ve watched them hundreds of times, but I am a little bitter about the fact that I missed out on the big screen experience. Luckily for me, Cineworld shows a classic film once a month and I hope I’ll eventually be able to tick all my «wish-I’d-seen-at-the-cinema» films off of the list.
Cardiff Cineworld is by no means as flashy as the Odeon, but one assumes that you’re not there to sit in big leather seats, but to watch a (hopefully) good movie, and Cineworld is the perfect cinema for doing just that. However, having lived a long way from town for the last 2 years, the Odeon had been preferable on the basis that I was able to drive there. Thankfully, the new St David’s car park has meant that Cineworld is once again my cinema of choice.

Cineworld is very handy if you’re in the city centre on foot and fancy seeing a film, because it’s very central. It’s not so convenient if you’re driving directly to the cinema from elsewhere, however — in which case you’re better off going to the Odeon which offers on site parking. If you’re arriving by train, it’s closer to Queen Street station than Cardiff Central.
Cineworld appeals to a wider audience than many mainstream cinemas, however, because it screens not only the big Hollywood films, but also some top Bollywood movies and 3D films.
If you’re a real film buff, you could go along to their film quiz which is held in the upstairs bar — but for lightweights like me I’d only show myself up!

The Cineworld cinema in Cardiff has the unusual distinction of being one of the marks of the landscape. You see, it’s an owl. I don’t mean a literal owl. I mean the architect, for some unfathomable, no doubt drug-​fueled reason, saw he had to design a building for a cinema and said to himself «What best represents the cinematic experience? I know! AN OWL! With a beak! AND EYEBROWS! I’m a genius. Where’s the vodka gone?»
Dubious structural design aside, the Cineworld is the middle-​child in the Cardiff cinema trifecta. Not as vast and all-​encompassing as the Odeon down the Bay, and not as scummy and as chav infested as Vue next to the Stadium, Cineworld is instead, just a cinema. The venue of the unassuming cinephile. The Odeon is where you go if you are treating yourself to an IMAX screening, and the Vue is normally the place to go if you’ve just stabbed someone for a fiver and need an alibi and a place to lay low for a bit, but the Cineworld is the place to go to just watch a movie.
With its twelve screens and large auditoriums, the complex is in no way small, and competes with the more expensive Odeon on everything apart from the iMax experience. It also provides monthly viewings of classic films where the true cinephiles come out. It’s one hell of an experience to watch Withnail and I on the big screen, you and all your friends (and everyone else, for that matter) surreptitiously sipping on sneaked-​in wine you brought just for the event, and I heartily recommend it should you be given the chance.

Here you can see for yourself how, the wonders of the human minds can create such fascinating worlds, all in front of your very eyes, you do not have to do a thing, except pay for a ticket or two and take a trip to the cinema.
It is perhaps like any old cinema, but here at least you get the cheaper prices and the cheaper food to add to your comfort zone that you should so wish to acquire.
They do 3D films here; such as Toy story three and Shrek four. They do charge you for the glasses though but the price is under a £1.
They have even had the odd film premier here for films starring Ioan Gruffed, unfortunately I was unable to attend that day as anyone from the public can stand outside and wait around for the stars. This cinema is based opposite the CIA.

Not much to say about this one as I haven’t been there in a while now but the memories that I do have are pleasant ones
The staff were even willing to engage in conversation and offer their own recommendations as to which film may be a good one to go and see

Although I’m generally a frequenter of Vue, due to its location next to the train station, I do on occasion venture over to Cineworld. Usually only if the showing times happen to be more convenient, or that kind of thing.
They show your usual kinds of Hollywood films, and, I must commend them here, also show a good amount of Bollywood films. I do enjoy the odd jaunt into lavish sing-​songs. They also show some films, namely children’s, for slightly longer than other cinemas.
I recommend you use the cheap Tuesdays (always a nice surprise when I forget about them).
There is also a film quiz held regularly in the bar upstairs. But this is quite a hardcore quiz. Three friends and I from the same Film degree went with another friend who works for Working Title and another for the BBC, and we came last. The shame. Are you up to it?

My best friend has a Cineworld unlimited card and so always suggests meeting there to see a film as she pays a flat monthly rate for… err… unlimited films presumably. I don’t, and not because I don’t have a need for it (I personally think it’s great) and not because I don’t like Cineworld but because it’s a bit awkward to get to.
If you live outside the city in the surrounding areas and you have a car then the choice is presumably for the Odeon which is in a huge multiplex with free parking and roomy gallery seats. Cineworld is smack bang in the middle of the city and so parking is always an issue.
The cinema itself is pretty good but odd in terms of the set up. It’s tall but a bit thin and so as Laura has mentioned, there are lots of escalators and stairs which is a bit annoying.
Cineworld gets much respect from me for showing some of the less well known films and so if you’re eager to see something that you can’t find in the Odeon, then Cineworld will probably be your best bet.

Film is pretty much my life and where better to go then, than the cinema. Cineworld is in a great location, about 2 mins away from Queen Street station.
Boasting 3 floors of screens (Over 12 if I remember rightly) the setting for the world of films is a grand old spectacle. Full of blue lights decorating the windows, you can the building way before your anywhere near it.
Besides films, what’s really good about this place is that they support the Atrium University and do hold events etc for them. There’s also other festival that have passed by there and is worth checking out their site to see what’s going on.

I recently went to see Up (which, by the way, is a brilliant film!) at this cinema. The whole building is a little bit odd, to be honest. You have to go up two storeys to even get to the tickets booth and then might have to go up three more if your screen is right at the top… not really a problem because they’ve got escalators but we were quite unlucky. There was a fire drill and, unable to use the escalators, we had to walk allllllll tthe way downstairs and then allllllll the way back up.
The prices at all Cineworlds are quite good, especially if you have a student card. They also give you money off vouchers every time you go (plus we got a free viewing for having our viewing interrupted — excellent!).
The popcorn is also particularly good — I am very specific about my popcorn! But, trust me, yum!
