NOTES:
~ I’ve only been to this location once and quite enjoyed it, but it didn’t exactly blow me away. However, I’m totally willing to come back in the future and if this place offers consistency and their other menu options are great, I’d be happy to bump up my review!

~ Atmosphere:
Cadwaladers is blessed with an awesome location right in the heart of Mermaid Quay overlooking the bay. With outside seating as well, it definitely makes for a very relaxing place to sit back and enjoy a delicious dessert.
~ Customer Service:
One downside I feel. When my partner and I walked in, there was one girl at the counter who was scooping some ice cream. Yeah I understand she was busy, but she actually didn’t even acknowledge us apart from a glance. After a good 5 minutes of us just awkwardly standing there, she finally said in a bored tone «be right with you» but it didn’t even ended up being her who helped us… but someone just standing on the other side organising stuff who finaly showed up.
~ Food:
I ordered a Coke Float (with Diet Coke) and my partner had a Hot Belgian Waffle. I tried a little bite of his belgian waffle and it was very yummy. The coke float was just a standard coke float. There’s also plenty of ice cream flavours available!

Overall, I do like Cadwaladers and I’d be happy to come back, especially for the atmosphere. However, there’s nothing (as of yet) that would warrant more than 3 stars. Still, I would recommend this spot to anyone who wants a nice spot to kick back and relax in Mermaid Quay!

The lure of ice cream at the water’s edge! Cadwalders has a wide selection of different flavours of all traditional Welsh ice cream, and it has a beautiful location with great views of the bay! I had the salted caramel popcorn ice cream which was great. We were there on a quiet Sunday afternoon in offseason but the service was still very slow. Then again, it wasn’t a huge issue because we were on holiday and had time to soak in the ambiance.

I was out in Cardiff for the day on a works jolly and we opted to meet here as we were going on about trip right next to the place.
It’s stuck out on a little pier and is pretty dated, but actually that didn’t really matter as it kind of added to that ‘quaint’ vibe.
Things instantly went down hill when my colleague asked to use the toilet… they don’t have one! She was politely directed to the nearest public toilet which was apparently fine, but for me if you serve food and drink you must have a toilet!
I only had coffee which was really nice. A few other opted for pastries and cakes which look nothing special but we’re apparently very nice.
I liked this place but it was nothing special and lacked a bit of something different and a toilet!

Dont order a milkshske unless you are willing to teach the guys here how to do it or you like a glass of cold full fat milk! Very very disapointing

I came here and got a mint chip ice cream. I liked it a lot and the inside was nice because it was raining out. I don’t really think there was anything particularly notable about it here, but I think you basically pay for what you get – normal good ice cream, nothing fancy.

On a hot day in Cardiff, this little ice cream parlour with little prices is great. Wandering around the bay and fancying a sit down (old man), I joined the short que and was served in no time by a smiling young girl, after looking at the wide range of choice, I decided to plump for the Choc-​chip cookie option, a good choice I’m sure you’ll agree. Then as it was a nice day I took a seat outside and watched the boat trips around the bay arrive back with confused looking tourists «Was Cardiff always nice?». The answer to that can be argued but this little gem is certainly nice and provides a lovely pit-​stop for anyone exploring Cardiff bay. Not only are the prices more than reasonable but the location is unique; there are not many ice cream parlours that invite customers to walk across a bridge to get there but the walk is worth it and so is the ice cream.

The wonderfully trendy and Mermaid Quay, Cardiff Bay, has absolutely every kind of food you could imagine. However, what better way to follow up a delicious meal than with some of the finest ice cream going? Set picturesquely on the short pier which stretches out into the bay, Cadwaladers enjoys a roaring trade, particularly during the summer (rather unsurprisingly). With a number of flavours to choose from, assorted cones and various sprinkles, customers can enjoy as lavish or as simple an ice cream as they desire.
With both indoor and outdoor setting, this is also popular as a café, with the choice of teas, coffees and hot chocolates all proving very popular with those looking for refreshment. Particularly on a sunny summers day, this is a great place to rendevouz with friends and enjoy either a refreshing beverage, or indeed a delicious ice cream. This is a good place to come for all ages, and you wont be left disappointed.

Cadwaladers is one of my favourite places to frequent whenever I’m down at Cardiff Bay, this is because it serves ice cream and lots of it. You can get it in little paper tubs or in cones, I tend to be tempted by the cone they do that is covered in chocolate and hundreds and thousands sprinkled over all over. Maybe you’ll be able to resist, though I doubt that very much.
The variety available is the big draw of this ice cream parlour, that and the fact that someone that doesn’t know Cadwaladers will be intrigued by how large the crowd is that’s gathering around this shop on the end of a pier. It isn’t cheap, but it is really good quality ice cream that will continue to be a treat for me if I’m ever around the area.

Whoever thought to put a Cadwaliders café in the Maermaid Quay is an absolute genius. The ice cream at Cadewaliders is simply the best and every ice cream that is scooped just tastes fantastic. For me it doesn’t even have to be a hot day I would still make the pilgrimage down to the Bay It is a bit of a shame that there isn’t enough room to sit down as there are other Cadwalider cafes around Wales that have quite spacious seating area (or so I’ve heard).
Cadwaliders also sells the low calorie alternative of frozen yogurt which does taste pretty good, but if I’m honest unless I’m being incredibly weight conscious I will still stick to the ice cream!

Everyone loves ice cream. Whether you’re a baby, an OAP or anywhere in between, nothing compliments a hot day like a cool cone of icy goodness.
Overlooking the seas of Cardiff Bay, Cadwaladers Ice Cream Café is ideal place to be on a summer’s day. With a great selection of ice cream available and variety that could rival the London Palladium, the amount of flavours on offer will have you drooling like a Rick Waller in Mr Kipling’s pantry.
Whether you’re sampling the Sundae of the Day or just craving your favourite frosty flavour, Cadwaladers Ice Cream Café is the king of ice cream in the Bay. And for the more health conscious of dessert connoisseurs, they also stock a great selection of frozen yoghurt, which tastes just as good if not better, without the calorie count you would expect from a tasty dessert.

Ice cream, ice cream, come and get your ice cream! yes that’s right, Cadwaladers does a ton of ice cream for you to lick on during a hot summer’s day down Cardiff bay, or even on one of those bizarre Autumn days that has surprisingly turned out a little warm.
There is a vast array of flavours here and even frozen yoghurt, which I should opt for but I always give in to the creamy ice cream. This establishment is situated over looking the water of the bay on a little pier, perfect for getting that little bit closer to the cool waters.
The bay is a lovely place to go for a nice walk and there is nothing better than going for a spot of lunch and then popping over to Cadwaladers and taking 15 minutes trying to decide what flavour to go for. Butternut scotch for me all the way Unilocalers.

For all ice cream lovers out there give this sheek little ice cream café a try.
I have been here so many time. In the summer there is nothing nicer than sitting outside looking out onto the bay enjoying one og the biggest ice cream sundaes I have every seen.
The list of different sundeas endless, I usually opt for the strawberry sundae followed by a hot chocolate with marshmellows. I know the calorie intake is super high but sometimes a girl needs to kick back and relax.
The last time I went here I made my order then realised I had forgotten my purse. I was expecting them to take my ice cream back until I could find a way to pay but they didn’t. They were more than happy for me to finish my treat and then go to the bank to withdraw some cash.
P.S If you havent got a sweet tooth this café also serves savoury snacks. I havent tried these myself but if they are anything like the sweet selection on offer they will also be super duper!
One last thing I am sure they take cards but they have a minimum spend threshold!

It’s a hot day, your down the bay and you want some cool refreshing ice cream. Cadwaladers has a variety of flavours and the location is bizarre, it sits on a peer jutting out from the busy street. Busy every time I’ve been there, you’ll have to queue so expect to wait 5minutes. It feeds your desert desires, it’s a shame there’s a lack of seating. The shop is small so don’t expect to get a seat just because you’re a paying customer.
There’s something a bit odd about this one like it’s a ice cream van without the ability to move. I like to try a variety of ice creams and Cadwaladers certainly has variety and taste.

Cadwaladers Cafés is a small Welsh chain best known for its delicious, creamy ice creams, with a fairly extensive range of unusual flavours — all of which are said to contain a secret ingredient. The latest flavour their team is testing is Plum Cheesecake with a ginger nut base, which gives you an idea of how adventurous some of their flavours are…
This Cardiff Bay branch is more contemporary than most of their other outlets. Built on a small pier jutting out into the Bay, the café provides panoramic views of the Barrage, the Victorian Pierhead building, the Millennium Centre, and the National Assembly building. It’s a great spot on a calm and sunny day, but can be fairly windswept when it’s not!
While they also serve teas, coffees, and other bits and bobs, it’s the ice cream most people flock here for. You can enjoy your ice cream in cones, on waffles, sandwiched in a scone, or with fruit and syrup — but however you have it, it’s very good quality. Open as late as 10pm on some summer evenings, you can even grab dessert and coffee there after a meal at one of the Bay’s restaurants.

This place is great mainly because of its location. An ice cream parlour sticking out over Cardiff Bay on stilts is bound to draw anyone in.
The ice cream here, although delicious, does not really have that homemade feel to it that I always expect. But if it’s ice cream sundaes and banana splits you’re after, this is a great place. Although the company is Welsh through and through, there cafes certainly have an American feel to them.
As Anna mentioned, there is unfortunately always a queue. But then that’s the same for anywhere that sells ice cream on a warm day. As would be expected, this café is usually full of children. It’s a great place to bring them, if that’s what you’re after. But if you were looking for a quieter coffee and a sit down, I would recommend the Norwegian Church. It’s worth walking a little bit further.

You know that somewhere’s good when there is always a queue, and this is one of those places.
Its in a prime location for an ice cream parlor in the summer, and in the winter their cakes and a cuppa go down well. Its so much more than just ice-​cream in a cone. They have gorgeous waffles and savoury snacks if your not in an ice cream mood. Still the ice-​cream is creamy and moreish so worth giving a go.
My tip is to head on down in time for sunset, get yourself a seat out front and enjoy the views.

Best avoided during tourist season due to massive queues and screaming children!
Worth a visit though if you’re in the area as there’s a delicious cacophony of flavours of ice-​cream and other delectable delightful treats — the hot chocolate is a must in the colder months!

I must say I’m not much of an ice cream fan, but this little parlor on the end of a disused landing pontoon is great. There are so many flavors to choose from and you can even choose what type of flake you want in it!
As well as ice cream they serve a menu of your typical lunchtime food which can be eaten in their seating area whilst watch yachts race in the bay.
However, as mentioned in th other reviews, in the summer queues for a taste of their amazing ice cream are ridiculous so don’t attempt to go if it’s a blistering hot bank holiday!

All I have to say is that the Icecream is brilliant! One of the best I tasted and the missus sure agrees (she is the one that always wants to stop by, even on cold days). I agree with Seren01 when she says that this can get a very busy place on a sunny warm day. The place is located right in the middle of the old marina on Cardiff bay, so do not hesitate to drop by!

What is the secret ingredient? Seaweed of course, that’s why the beach is so clean. I collect it at the dead of night! It could of course be our secret herd of cattle? (

Leckeres walisisches Eis aus Criccieth in Nordwales hier auch in Cardiff Bay erhältlich. Etwas teuer, die Kugel.
Warum soll das Eis so gut sein? Wie im Zitat oben wegen der Meeresalgen. Ich finde, das hört sich eher unappetitlich an — oder gibt es doch eine heimliche Kuhherde?
Vanille ist die Spezialität. Aufregender finde ich Aprikose und Brandy oder Dragon’s Breath, der Atem des walisischen Drachens. Schokoladenporridge als Eissorte — wow! Very Walisisch. Es gibt Eisbecher und leckere Eiscocktails.
Es könnte schöner zum Sitzen angelegt sein.
