Briwnant Riding School

This family-​run Riding Centre nestled at the top of Wennallt, just outside Cardiff, is licenced by the local council to offer (full and working) livery, riding lessons, and trekking. With 40 horses, the site on the side of Caerphilly Mountain offers some lovely views and trekking routes.
The husband and wife team behind the business have been involved with horses for many years, and Sarian who looks after the riding lessons and supervises the Livery previously managed the Llanishen Pony Club. Group lessons are friendly and good fun because you get to meet other riders. The atmosphere is encouraging and unstuffy, and it only costs £15 per hour on weekdays or £16 at weekends. If you prefer private lessons on a one-​to-​one basis, it’s a lot more expensive (£29 per hour on weekdays, £31 on weekends) but of course you are likely to improve more quickly because all the attention is on you and checking your faults and making progress.
One of their daughters, Nicola, looks after trekking sessions which last either one hour (£18 weekdays, £21 on weekends) or two hours (£33 weekdays, £36 on weekends). I haven’t tried their livery services but the stables look well-​maintained, as does the outdoor school.
