This shop serves good food for a good price but it’s small size and lack of distinctiveness means it may be overlooked in favour of larger sandwich places nearby. I’ve eaten here a few times, and it seems to do a pretty good trade at lunchtimes, but it’s not somewhere that I’d pick as my first choice if I was in Cathays and wanted a quick lunch. This isn’t Baguettes and Bagels’ fault by any means, it’s merely because I, through force of habit, will gravitate towards other shops that are bigger and that I’m more familiar with. However when I did eat here the food I had was tasty, the selection of fillings and extras was wide enough to satisfy most customers and the prices were friendly on the wallet. I say give it a go, maybe you’ll prefer a small place like this to some of the larger, busier sandwich places in Cathays. And if you’re fairly set in your ways like me then have a go anyway and see what you think, after all it’s nice to try somewhere new every now and then.

There are so many places like this around Cathays. And some of them are so much better than this. Some of them are so much worse — but is that really a compliment? The prices are acceptable and the service, to be fair, was great. But my food had no real flavour and it didn’t have that lightness that you get with something that tastes truly fresh. On a hot summer’s day when you’ve been exercising, you want something that you can sink your teeth into, but still isn’t too stodgy… I just didn’t get that.
