University of Kent

Ah Kent, my undergrad years were spent lolling about the green and fresh pastures of Tyler Hill. (I TOTALLY STUDIED HARD AS WELL, I swear.)
Pre warning: I loved my time at Kent — this review is SUPER biased
It is the ideal University if you’re into campuses and a more sporty lifestyle because the grounds are massive and it’s all enclosed in one big area, with like a number of different colleges. I say different colleges but there isn’t REALLY a collegiate atmosphere because it’s mainly accomodation and there isn’t much collegiate rivalry because it’s all so open, so it’s probably one of the friendliest uni campuses ever. Not only that, the campus itself has something stupid like 7 bars, a shop, a nightclub, and a pub so you could essentially spent 3 years here without leaving campus (which is a shame because Canterbury Town is BEAUTIFUL). And within the three years I was there– they constantly renovated and updated their bars and clubs.
Academic wise– it’s definitely a work hard and play hard atmosphere, infact many of my friends found that Kent a tour de force in encouraging further studies, and many of them did. I studied History and I can’t recommend it enough — it may be a small department but if you’re into your Medieval histories, this is the ideal place– you have the Canterbury Cathedral at your doorstep and it fuels that medievalness!
I can’t recommend it enough and it’s got such great links to London via high speed as well, so you’re never far away from the action.

HEART.
This was my university and I know everyone is loyal to wherever they studied, but this really is the best.
Known as the International University, Kent ranks highly in all the league tables, has links to dozens of other universities all over the world so if you want to do a year abroad, you’ve got a ridiculous amount of choice, and the campus itself is absolutely stunning.
You know when you see those postcard pictures of idyllic English countrysides and you think ‘that must be photoshopped’? Yeah, it’s not. If you want to see something like that for real, all you need to do is take a walk to Tyler Hill on the campus and look down into the town. With the sunlight dappling off the trees and the picturesque city centre just in the distance, the Cathedral piercing the clouds and birds singing merry tunes, it really is like something out of a film. I can’t get enough of it. Especially in Summer when, as a student, I would sit with my friends on that hill and have a barbeque or a nap (depending on how drunk I got the night before…) It’s just heaven.
But that’s not all. It has six bars/​restaurants on campus too, from pub food, to mexican, to pizzas, to posh food, you can get everything. Even if you just fancied a cup of tea and a good book, the library is there for you too. There’s a clothes shop, a corner shop and even a nightclub. You could realistically live on campus and never have to leave it the entire time you’re there, and many have done.
The uni itself has a ridiculous amount of subjects available, ranging from English Literature to Computer Science to Law to Sociology and everything in between. If you want to study, this is the place to go. I promise you.

Excellent university, with excellent Hispanic studies teachers, would recommend to everyone.
Good sized library and good places to eat, Origins is the place for students to go eat on Campus.
La Dolce vita’s portions aren’t what they used to be even if the quality is still excellent.

AMAZING campus!!! :) So so green and beautiful, great views and lovely weather although sometimes very windy as you are on top of a hill! The lectures are good, and contact hours vary between which subject you take etc. I take English and have 8 contact hours a week whereas a friend that takes law has about 30! So it really varies. Accomodation is good, you can either live fully catered in the colleges (Rutherford, Eliot) or self catered in the colleges (Darwin, Keynes) or self catered in the student village, Parkwood. There are a couple of supermarkets and off licence’s on campus with a DVD rental shop.
