Jolly Sailor

I am an American foreign exchange student. No place had ever made me feel as comfortable as the jolly has! When I get home sick I come here because the owner (blackie) is so nice! If you want to feel like you are apart of the community come here on Wednesday nights to meet people. Also they play beer pong and flip cup on American themed nights so it’s a great way to win bets and show up the Brits! In all honesty it’s for students so if you’re a tourist you may not have as good of a time, but you will still be welcomed! I will genuinely miss this place and consider yourself lucky to be accepted by such good people!

This is one of my favorite places in Canterbury. Great for a nice chill night hanging out with friends. On Thursdays they have some good drink specials as well including my favorite the Bloody Cutlass. It’s three shots of vodka, black currant, and some soda water for only three quid. So worth it. The owner Blacky is a former Christ Church student and very clearly takes great pride in his place. The staff are extremely friendly and even on the busiest of nights they make it a priority to get guests their drinks in a timely manner. I definitely recommend this place to anyone in Canterbury.
Also, side note for those who like mixed drinks, pitchers for only 10 quid and it’s a real bargain, much stronger than you’d find anywhere else. :)

Nice atmosphere, reasonable prices with some good deals every now and then, nice enough paved outdoor area and the toilets are okay too. It isn’t especially big which, in my opinion, adds to the atmosphere.
