History

Established in 1994.

The practice was originally started by Dr Amure, a local GP and Ophthalmologist. It was run with an ethos of providing a valued, friendly service to the local villages.

In 2004 the practice was sold to me, Andrew Copley, a qualified Dispensing Optician. I continue to run the practice with the same philosphy and in fact Dr Amure is now one of my fondest friends after he continued to work at the practice for a further 6 years after selling.

We are open 6 days a week and are gradually increasing the number of days we offer eye examinations. We are acredited to perform Diabetic Eye Screening which is run out of Hinchingbroke Hospital and is an excellent example of how community optometry can work.

Business Owner

I started out in optics at Vision Express many, many years ago as an optical assistant. All I knew about glasses was from wearing them myself.

After a couple of years I left VE to go and work for an independent practice as a trainee Dispensing Optician. This is when I realised that the Independent route was the one for me as I found the relationship between the patient and myself was more… more…rewarding.

I became a fully qualified Dispensing Optician in 2000 and after working a further four years between two practices the opportunity came along to buy my own practice, Eyes of Swavesey.

It has been, and still is, hard work but I wouldn’t change a thing… I think, lol! My wife works for the practice too but since having two children of our own she splits her time between them and the practice — I don’t know how she does it.
