This place is absolutely fine. It’s intimate enough for a slap-up with your sweetheart and cool enough to go with a bunch of mates. The staff are all amazing, and on the level(ie, like real people who are willing to have a laugh and joke with you, especially as this place physically can’t get that packed). The atmosphere is further aided by them playing cool music, in a kind of triphop vein last time I went for a sitdown meal. I used to go here fairly regularly for takeaway burgers(with oodles of garlic mayonnaise and blue cheese dressing — by far the most amazing combination), which are some of the best burgers I’ve tried. They cost about a fiver with chips, and I guarantee that they’ll fill you up. Satisfaction is what the Walrus does.

The Walrus and Carpenter is a charming, idiosyncratic little bistro situated in the heart of Clifton. I went there with my wife a few years ago now and had a very pleasant evening. The waitress was very friendly(if memory serves me correctly) as she spent a great deal of time explaining certain things on the menu. This was nice, but due in no small part to the fact that we were the only people in there at the time. Still, it showed she cared about the customers. I could have ordered something quite fancy, but being the occasional ignoramus that I am, I went for their Walrus Chili Burger and chips(I could tell the waitress realised she had just wasted her time explaining the other items when I plumped for that one). It was delicious.
