Shanghai Express is presumably named after the 1930’s film starring Marlene Dietrich. There’s nothing original in that. There’s not a great deal else that’s original about this business, but there’s no shame in that. Especially if a copy-cat approach to fast food means that they’ve been keeping customers happy for over a decade — which they have. I’ve ordered food from here a couple of times and have never been disappointed. Food is delivered on time and is always fresh and hot. Prices are reasonable and the staff are as friendly as you can get. It’s a shame that Shanghai Express is so close to my favourite Chinese take-away or else they’d see an awful lot more of me in here as their standards are pretty close. But I’m no different to the next person; I’m a creature of habit and do what I know best.

Shanghai Express is quite good. I had a takeaway from here once and I enjoyed my typical order of Chicken and Cashew Nuts with Egg Fried Rice. Nothing was particularly note-worthy and I have not been back since. Not that there was anything wrong with the place, it was quite nice but nothing out of the ordinary. I’m always a bit suspicious of somewhere that serves Chinese food as well as English dishes, and Shanghai Express goes a bit further by serving fish and chips! I am told that the fish and chips here is actually above average in quality. The Chinese dishes I had were okay and relatively cheap compared to other Chinese takeaways in close proximity.

It’s sometimes hard to find a really good Chinese take-away /delivery. While it’s not worthy of 5* praise it is an above average option. The chicken balls with sweet and sour sauce are without a doubt my favourite here although I did also have a good honey chicken dish. Delivery enforces an extra charge of £1 but you do get free prawn crackers for orders over £15. In my experience you sometimes have to pursued them that you do live within 3 miles range but they are usually talked round without any trouble!

Shanghai Express serve a variety of Chinese dishes at their restaurant, and english ones as well! I used to wonder why they served Fish and Chips, and asked one of my friends, they reckon its so a whole family can go there for a take away regardless of if they like Chinese food or not, as Fish and chips is always a cheeky option that could be had! So there you have it, some sweet and sour noodles and a nice piece of cod for all the family to enjoy!
