A teeny tiny library on Whiteladies Road, which most would say is not actually Redland but more Clifton. Perhaps it used to be more in Redland? Or perhaps Redland residents don’t have one in the middle of their area. Who knows? Anyhow, this is a small library. Don’t go expecting to find everything you’re looking for but if you want the odd bit of fiction, a basic reference book or a CD to listen to (for about 50p a week or something) then it’s worth checking out. The entrance is pretty narrow, so much so that you’re not going to see Dawn French or Robbie Coltrane inside but then they don’t live in Bristol anyway! The other thing to be weary of is the fines for overdue books. As far as I’m aware there is no cap on the level of the fine, so if you forget for a whole summer you could find yourself lumbered with a very big bill indeed.

This is a great little public library, conveniently placed on Whiteladies for everyone who lives at this end of town. Being that it’s not the largest library around (that being Bristol Central Library, on College Green) it obviously can’t store a huge amount of books, even though I can occasionally be found in their graphic novel section, going through the old Judge Dread comics that remind me of being 11… anyway what was I saying… Oh yes, the best thing about this library is that they have internet access and printers, so if you’re like me and your printer never has any ink in it, you can pop in and print documents for 10 pence a page.
The computers do occasionally get booked up, but I have never had to wait too long to use one. Just make sure you take proof of address and some ID if you are not a library member.

This is one of the most charming local libraries in the city. It reminds me of when i was a lot younger and i was taken to get books and tapes from my local library at home. The old library building houses, exactly what you would expect, children’s books with an extra sticky external plastic case, somewhere to sit and read and a computer.
I popped in here when i got to Bristol looking for somewhere to get book and potentially write some essays for my degree. Unfortunately, it is too small a library to supply any of the books that i needed but is a nice place to do some work.

I often feel quite nostalgic for the libraries around the city (whilst typing this up on a computer at home, of course), and I’d have to say this is one of the best local libraries, especially if you’re living in Clifton and Redland but don’t have an inclination to trek down Park Street to visit the main library off College Green. There’s plenty to read here, whether academically or just for fun, and they will always order in any books that aren’t stocked, which usually arrive within 24 hours unless you’ve asked for something rare like the original copy of the bible, in which case they’ll say yes and never get back to you about it. Other things inside are computers on the interweb and a rather useful pamphlet and notice board area for finding out about all the local activities you can get up to, bar dogging.

This is my local when it comes to libraries. It can be found on Whiteladies Road, just up from the Clifton Down Shopping Centre and Railway Station. The selection of books is OK, it’s pretty full, but the premises is pretty small, so you’re better thinking you’ll take out what you find rather than specifically looking for something. Having said that, you can always order books from other libraries in the area.
This library also has a small computer section of around eight computers, which are usually not too busy. Be prepared to wait up to half an hour though.
The staff are all really friendly and helpful and will explain how to use the resources on offer. If you’re looking for something specific however, you’re probably better off going to central library.

Another odd looking library building, the Whiteladies road branch is much smaller than central, with one main room over two tiers. They’re nonetheless still very well stocked, and especially so with the audio tapes, which I has been mostly the reason for my visits here. They’ve got a noticeably vast music and CD section, and a good children’s area as well. The staff are far more pleasant and welcoming than down in the centre — I guess they’re not as rushed in this branch, and they’ll definitely have a chat with you. There aren’t as many available computers though, so if you’re after internet access perhaps try another library or book in advance, but for their traditional use I give them a thumbs up.

I really like Redland Library! Its got everything you could need! As has previously been said the staff are great and i especially love the ability to wi-​fi and so have internet access — this is great! Massive variety of books and DVD’s — what more do you want from a library?!

A really warm place — not only are the staff friendly and helpful, but the heating is usually on so high that you get quite toasty in there! Really easy to register and with membership comes use of all libraries in the area, free internet and the really great thing (which I haven’t come across before) is that you can return books to any ‘branch’ in greater Bristol area. The main reason we frequent it at the moment is for the DVDs, they cost £1 (£2 and £2.80 for the just released ones which make up about 1%) and you get to keep them for a week. There is a good selection of Hollywood blockbusters and independently produced movies both recent and more classic. CDs are 50p (borrow for a week) and of course, as you would expect, there is also a selection of books.
