Whilst most Mc Colls are very similar, this one is noteworthy for two reasons: Firstly, it also incorporates the local post office, and has done since the one on the other side of North Street was closed. Secondly, the staff here are remarkably friendly local people, who are always polite and helpful despite working what seem like extremely long hours — you can go in in the morning for a newspaper, then go in the evening for a bottle of wine, and the same girl will be there, not seeming to have moved, and still as courteous as ever. Like most Mc Colls, this one stocks sweets, cakes, chocolate, newspapers and magazines, bread, milk, cold meat and dairy products, frozen foods, alcohol, cigarettes and lottery tickets. There are always some great deals on offer too, so be sure to have a look around and see if there’s something you want, like a large packet of bourbon biscuits for 20p — who could resist?

This shop is truly multifaceted, functioning as a post office, off license and newsagents. There are often good deals on alcohol here, such as three bottles of wine or a crate of larger for ten pounds. The shop also sells a range of food, including fruit and vegetables(not of the greatest quality), and has a mini bakery section boasting croissants and the like. If you’re heading to the Tobacco Factory to see a play, this is an ideal place to stock up on obligatory munchies.

McColl’s is handy for those late night emergency chocolate fixes or alcohol runs, but I would try to avoid it for anything else. Prices are standard among all McColls which means it’s more expensive than most other 7 – 11’s. To be honest, there isn’t much to seperate this McColls to all the other ones. The only thing I would say is to pop in after 5pm and they have a lot of fruit and veg on offer which needs to be eaten which is pretty good value. For anything other than a couple of items, I would avoid like the plague as your bill will cost twice the amount it should.

McColl’s are always good, where ever you go, you can garantee that the selection on offer is the same in each store. Slightly better than a newsagents as McColls also serves as an off liscence. I think I share a bond with these stores, as my local one in Temple Meads seems to provide me with all those last minute items. This one is farily average, popular with the locals, often see many bedminster-ites leaving with paper under arm and crisps in hand… wait a sec that was me!
