Las Iguanas – Bristol Harbourside

Definitely one of my favourite chain restaurants and the Harbourside location is really nice for going for a walk after your meal. The food here is good to average but it’s 2 for 1 cocktails always keep me and friends coming back :) Yummy mojitos are usually brought quite quickly although food can be a bit of a wait when it’s busy — which is always. Note; you get a free cocktail if it’s your birthday!

I am normally hugely impressed with Las Iguanas. Everything from the extensive menu (beet and bean burgers, enchiladas, stuffed tortilla with chipotle chicken, butternut squash based mains) to the price (around 7 quid) is fresh and new and different. Especially as there is a deficit of South American, and specifically Mexican cuisine in the UK, Las Iguanas could do little wrong in terms of its food.
However, we came here solely for the happy hour cocktails, so I will stick to that!
When we came in we were told we couldn’t eat in the restaurant and had to stay in the bar if we were only having drinks… even though there was basically no one there. We said we might have some appetizer nibbles which then got us to proper, non-​bar-​stool seating. The Long-​Island Iced Tea was quite light colored and didn’t seem to have a lot of coke in it. It tasted nice but just wasn’t right to our booze barometer. The lime, rum, and ginger beer Dark and Stormy was fine and well priced at buy one get one free (6 quid). I liked the Pisco Sour, featuring Pisco, triple sec, egg whites, and bitters but it was very average compared to how good it sounded in the description. However, our sweet potato fries were perfected cooked and seasoned… but still needed bit extra salt ;)
Good area with nice outside seating near the harborside but the slow service between drinks and the attitude at the beginning along with the so-​so cocktails didn’t impress me.

As chain restaurants go this was pretty decent good service, an interesting menu (for a Mexican establishment) and a generally lively and fun atmosphere. No complaints about the Xinxim I had for my main course & the other 7 diners in our party all considered themselves similarly well fed and watered at a reasonable price.
