Edward Gaut Violins specializes in providing a quality service of repair to your boken instrument regardless of severity, a new bridge to the top needing to come off for major repair. The kind of repair that leaves you feeling content and reassured as if the repair wasn’t ever needed.

Some repairs are things like; neck grafts, peg bushings, replacement or reshape to finger boards, new bridges and pegs, cracks from small ‘F’ wing to more delicate sound post cracks which need patches, under edging, edge and corner replacement and sound adjustment.

Other specialities lay in the making of new handmade fine violins, violas and cellos for orchestral players. Taking insparation from great former makers of Italy such as Del Gesu, Amati, Rogeri, Guerneri and of course Stradivari.

Routine servicing of your instrument, checking the pegs are working, bridge and soundpost are in the correct place, dressing the finger board.

History

Established in 2004.

After a stint in London I set up the self titled Edward Gaut Violins in 2004 in my home county of Lincolnshire 10 miles from the place I learnt how to make violins (Newark & Sherwood School of Violin Making).

In 2006 the business re-​located to Bristol in the south west. Business is conducted from the family home a mile east of Temple Meads railway station where the workshop is. This allows us to be accomodating to musicians or parents with hectic lifestyles that are unable to drop off instruments or bows between the usual 9 – 6 of most shops.

As a business owner and more so a violin maker, one really needs to have so many attributes to function a sucessful business from dealing with people to understanding chemistry. I would hope that I come across to my customers as a light hearted but sincere individual capable of fufilling there requirements of the task in hand. Someone that is capable of good comunication and keeping the customer up to date on any long projects and that I am capable to turn projects around on time sometimes in very short periods.
