Denny’s Bakery

A long-​term survivor of the ever-​changing North Street, Denny’s bakes excellent white, brown, granary and speciality bread. They also offer fresh door-​step thick sandwiches, which you can have made to order, or buy ready-​made. The staff are friendly, local people, who know most of their regular customers well. Perhaps the best advertisement for the bakery’s quality is the fact that they have so many of these loyal customers, many of whom have been visiting the shop for their daily bread for twenty years or more. Unfortunately, some of the staff are sadly over-​reliant on calculators in order to be able to tell you how much you’ve spent, which can be frustrating when you’re in a hurry, but their otherwise helpful attitudes do make up for this.
The bakery also produces a large selection of hot savouries such as sausage rolls and pasties, and their cheese and bacon wrap is particularly good.
However, the best of their offerings are definitely their sweet treats. There are pies, tarts, sponges, doughnuts and biscuits galore. For the connoisseur, it’s well worth a trip across the city just to sample one of Denny’s wonderful Belgian buns, which are enormous, delicious, and very good value for money at 70p. Be warned though, the word is out on these, and they do tend to sell out fairly quickly, so arrive early in the morning to avoid disappointment.

I am most definitely a fan of any independent bakery. I reckon their bread is leagues above any shop brought product and it costs roughly the same.
Denny’s is a wonderful example of one of these bakeries that has never let me down. To be fair, I have only been in here a couple of times as it is slightly out of my local area, but if i am ever walking past and that waft of freshly baked dough hits me, i just have to step in.
Can get busy in the mornings. Worth coming back at closing times as occasionally they do some really good deals with all the unsold items.

Granted, it’s not the most glamorous looking bakery, but what it lacks in glamour it makes up for in substance. If you’re one for piping fresh bread, I’d recommend you pop into Denny’s Bakery. The bread here is honestly the best I’ve ever tasted, warm and crusty on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. This is one of the few bakeries whereby I can safely say that the divine baking smell it emanates is actually on a par with the taste of its produce. The bakery also sells an array of cakes, in addition to hot and cold drinks. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area.

Saturday morning comes, I look in the fridge, bacon, good start, arghhh no bread… do I pop to Tesco for a cheap loaf… No… Denny, here I come!
A great fresh loaf smeard with country life butter and some sizzling bacon later and all in the world just seems right.
Why not 5 stars?! I here the shouts, sometimes, only sometimes, do I feel that my eyes pick things that the taste of just doesn’t seem too match up with, and if your paying that little bit extra you want it to be perfect everytime.
I’m sorry Denny, please don’t hate me!

This is a reasonable bakery located on North Street in Bedminster, Bristol. The good thing about them is that they seem to run out of stock much slower than Parsons, a few blocks down, but the quality is nowhere near as good as Parsons. The bread is fine, but the cakes dont smell very nice and the flapjacks are about as dense as a house brick! The décor is really dated too — its like walking into a 1970s bakers, slightly kitsch I suppose! The prices are reasonable and the staff are always nice so worth a visit for the basics, and then perhaps pop along to Parsons for your posher cakes!
