This vintage boutique first entered my consciousness a few weeks ago when I kept seeing flyers for it everywhere. When I ventured up to Whiteladies last week I was delighted to find a cool, quirky stall full of vintage finds. Cox & Baloney is situated inside Woolies Indoor Market on Whiteladies Road. This bizarre market used to be a Woolworths(RIP) so I was surprised that inside it was full of entrepreneurs selling everything from pies and coffee to soft furnishings and books. Move towards the back of the market and helpful signs will guide you upstairs to more stalls. As I wandered into Cox & Baloney I wanted to touch and pick up everything I laid my eyes on. Leather trunks, retro lampshades, tweed jackets and geometric 70s prints were just some of the gems I noticed as I ventured in to the boutique which had been lovingly decorated with kitsch flower garlands and grand gold framed mirrors. When I went there were some beautiful ‘reworked’ Laura Ashley dresses and a carpet bag Mary Poppins would be proud of. Sensibly, perhaps somewhat too sensibly, I left my credit card at home but can’t wait to go back and scout out more vintage finds. The owner was really friendly and the quality of vintage on offer was high and at affordable prices. Locals can bring in unwanted garments and, if good enough, these can be sold in store, with profits split between Cox & Baloney and the previous owner. If you like your fashion unique or are looking for a special gift then this will be your vintage treasure trove.
