This was the very first Coffee #1 I ever visited — and it’s definitely my all-time favourite! While I do usually favour independents, the lattes here are divine and rather hard to beat. I can’t resist helping myself to a chocolate range flapjack either — they’re super tasty and surprisingly filling. The toasted teacakes(loaded with butter obviously) are also as big as my face. While This beautiful chain has continued to expand, this outlet seems to maintain the distinct feel and an independent — and I love it!

This is a lovely café in the Clifton area of Bristol. The selection of gourmet coffees is extensive and the cakes/treats looked amazing. Definitely a place to nab a comfy seat by the window and enjoy some café life. Lovely!

Something of a rarity these days, Coffee 1 is actually an independent coffee shop holding it’s own against the relentless growth of the giant chained stores like Starbucks and the rest of them(too many to mention). The interior is spacious, but the atmosphere is warm and intimate. The coffee’s themselves are as good and possible even better then you will find in any of the chain shops, as are the cakes and sandwiches. Can get very busy particularly on a Saturday and you will find a lot of mums in there with push chairs and the occasional screaming kid, but I’m really struggling to find any real negatives with this place. Best coffee shop in Bristol? Probably.

Another trendy coffee joint in Clifton Down, coffee #1 offer great tasting Americanos and other espresso based drinks. The place is always busy with students on lunch here as well as those meeting for a quick coffee cake and catch up. The Unique Selling Point of Coffee 1 however(which is how they frame it) is that they don’t have wireless internet in any of their branches. They justify this by saying that it affects the customer’s experience, changing the atmosphere and taking away from the great coffee on offer. I personally think they just want to rake more money in and have a faster customer turnover.
