Bristol Evening Post & Press

As local papers go this is a good example of decent coverage of local happenings. You can be sure that if something big kicks off, such as the terror alert a couple of years ago or the Weston-​super-​Mare pier fire (they have a couple of North Somerset offices), that the Post will be at the heart of it reporting from the frontline. Granted, there is plenty of pretty dull bread and butter stories — local councillors grumbling about something or other, a family moaning about bin collections or schoolchildren doing gardening but then that all matters to someone. They have a decent weekly jobs section, property supplement and motors pages too. Finally, the Crackerjack ents pages of this paper are pretty good and they tend to cover the majority of gigs in the city.

I quite like leafing through the pages of the Evening Post — some of their articles leave a little to be desired for in terms of context and content but at least you can keep up with bits and pieces of local news. Riveting it is not but relaxing it can be.
The property section — which comes out every Tuesday, Friday (and Saturday though it’s not as good) as a really useful first stop if you’re looking for somewhere new to live in Bristol. It will give you a good idea about what’s available, where, with who, and for how much!
Also — if you have anything you think is newsworthy they often have space to print it!

On the site there is update to the minute news articles, but don’t get too excited as they are nothing particualry special, at the moment I believe there is a rather old story abouth an actor with size 11 feet complaining about not being able to get comfertable size 11 panto dame shoes… oh the horror…
I guess it’s worth looking at once… then deciding you have something better to do…

This really is a parochial, pompous pile of poo (I would have said shit but unfortunately alliteration changed my mind). Is there a law that says that local newspapers have to be incredibly conservative?
If you haven’t read this, I’m sure you get the idea as it’s like every other local paper ever made, with ‘Asylum seeker up tree’ style stories. Not only this, but this Daily Mail owned organisation has been systematically hoovering up/​smashing down any independent local media for the last few years. Having said all this, such is life that in about 15 years time I’ll probably have settled into an age where I think it’s the best thing since sliced foreigners…
