I often wonder what tomorrow’s world will bring. For me, I find tomorrow’s world is the same as today’s world, the only difference is that I’m just a little bit broker. If this shop is any indicator of what tomorrow’s world will bring to the general population, then, tomorrow’s world will have friendly customer service reps, a decent DVD selection and a large video game selection. And that’s a world I would very much like to live in. You’ll find the usual selection of movies and games you would find at any other rental shop. I did see that for the more popular video games(Final Fantasy XIII and God of War III), they place a limit on how long you are able to rent the games for as they are highly sought for titles. One day to play Final Fantasy XIII? Really? You need one day to watch the opening FMV sequence.

This is your run of the mill independent DVD shop, selling variety of next gen games and hollywood DVD’s. The rentals are slightly cheaper than the likes of Blockbuster; you can get a DVD/Game to ret for £3.50, or 2 for £5. They’ve got a loyalty card system to encourage regular renting, although I think blockbuster have the exact same thing as well. The range offered here is perfectly adequate, although nothing that really separates itself from bigger rivals or even shops like Video Box. Thankfully for Tomorrows World though; they are the only DVD shop for a mile or two.

There’s something paradoxically worn, and faded about tomorrows world, something that reminds me of yesteryear, of the 70s and the 80s, and the innocence of calling a shop ‘Tomorrows World’. And I bet you they looked upon those old Betamax and VCR players with an almost hesitant eye, wondering if people could handle the clarity of sound and vision, or would they go half crazy like those tester audiences for the Lumieres’ first films. I think it is the yellow on red and the slightly childish font that further makes me think of this shop in that way, because inside it’s not as though it’s someone’s grandad manning the shop, it’s just like any other smaller, independent rental place. The selection isn’t bad, but it’s not different or unique either. 2 films for £5 from Monday to thursdays is not a bad price I must say.
