If I could rate it less than this I would. It wasn’t just that it was overpriced. It wasn’t that there was just no choice in lighters at all (that was my main purpose of going in there, I know they sell other things but I have no comment on that) it was the abhorrent service from one man that drove me out of there and made me never want to return.
The most stuck up, rude and absolutely snootiest man I have ever encountered. Me and my boyfriend were inquiring about a side flint lighter for a friends birthday present and the second we walked in we were made to feel like we didn’t belong. This man did not help in this unwelcoming atmosphere. Believing that his shop was above showing the prices of his items, he had purposefully hidden the price tag of most of the items we wanted to know about. I had to peer around the shop window to catch a glimpse of the around a bout figure. So we inquired about the side flint lighter in the shop window and he just stared at us. Not saying a word, not moving out of his seat. It made me feel extremely uncomfortable and uneasy. Finally when he did get out of his seat he turned to the window and the lighter in question and said ‘the one for 350 (can’t remember the exact price)???‘
Well obviously that was too expensive for us so we had to leave. No word of thanks, or suggestions as to where we could buy a similar lighter for a cheaper price. If he is such an expert, he should have some sort of a clue. Nothing. He was so rude and horrible, I almost felt like buying it anyway and clearing myself out just to put some sort of reaction on his face rather than the one he had at that moment. He was looking down on us. Like we were not worthy customers at his ‘fine’ establishment.
In this day and age, acting in that manner is a sure fire way to loose business. Especially when this shop is in a prime location such as in the lanes where a lot of tourists come and go regularly. I can safely say that I will be shopping elsewhere for my ‘prestigious brands of Cuban cigars, the finest loose (flavoured) tobacco, pipes, all smoking accessories, quality lighters etc’. Frankly, there are about 5 other shops I can think of which sell all of those things with 1000% nicer people who would not look down on any customer.

This shop used to be great, they had a well stocked and well maintained humidor and seemed to have a real passion for high quality puros. These days however things seem to have changed for the worse. The cigar selection is poor, with the few boxes that are on display seeming to have been topped up from other boxes which means that you can’t reliably choose your cigars by their vintage (an obvious tell for this is the boxes of tubed cigars; the tubes in each box vary in colour). Having that much dead space in their walk in humidor isn’t a good thing when it comes to proper regulation of humidity.
As a serious cigar smoker I like to choose my cigars from a good selection as they can vary hugely due to the Cuban factories producing different brands in the same factory and the brands being produced across multiple factories. If I find a box I like I will look for others with the same factory and date code. For this reason I now avoid Taylor’s as this information can’t be relied upon.
To those posting positive reviews, I suggest you take a look elsewhere. My home humidor has a more varied and higher quality selection than Taylor’s. Sure they sell shaving soap and DE blades, however even these are overpriced, and yes, they do sell bongs and other weed paraphernalia.

This is a classy tobacconist that has a real feeling of the old world empire. As you walk in you will see a wall filled with jars of loose leaf shag, vanilla tobacco and more hardcore pipe baccy. Prices will cost you more than a pouch of Golden Virginia, but you will certainly get a much better grade of product for your pennies.
They have a wide range of papers and other smoking items across from the jars of baccy and you will find anything and everything you need in this regard.
The real icing on the cake is the cigar room. Now. I’m not really a stogie man, but you can’t help but be impressed by the special climate controlled room filled with very rare and expensive examples of Havana’s finest export. Worth checking out even if you don’t smoke just to see this room.

A throwback to the days when men were men and smoking was compulsory. All the main hand-​rolling tobacco brands are here alongside aromatic pipe tobacco and a ‘herbal high’ called Spice. Pipe enthusiasts can choose from Falcon, Peterson, Dr Plumb, Comoys, BBB, Big Ben, Dunhill, GBD, and Charatan. Cigars on offer range from Cuba, Honduras, the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua.
The friendly proprietor, Robert Caulfield, is an Arsenal fan and proudly displays his photo of the old Highbury ground, signed by Arsèné Wenger and he’ll happily indulge you in a manly chat about the beautiful game.
This is the place to stock up on your post-​prandial smokes before heading to one of the many al fresco eateries in the area. It almost made me want to take up the habit (again)…

This place feels like an anachronism in the shiny sequinned context of Bond St, which makes it all the more valuable; North Laine shops like these are gradually being subsumed by chain retailers and upscale kiddy designer shops. Taylor’s has been here for years and boasts a wealth of cigars — as well as the usual fare of bongs and baccy the owner is obliged to sell to pay his rates. A real connoisseur’s heaven, you can indulge your francophile tendencies and opt for Gauloises Blondes Legeres, get your Zippo fixed, buy one of many on display, or even purchase a fat Havana rolled on the plump thigh of a dusky Cuban beauty — she must be getting old by now. If you’re daft enough to smoke, this is the place to elevate your habit.

Taylors is the best place to get your hands on quality tobacco, not only do they always have in stock American Spirit, they also have jar after jar of various cuts and blends of very decent tobaccos. The owner is a connoisseur so if you are after a particular taste, ask him about it, and anything else for that matter. I like to fool myself that smoking additive free tobaccos is going to save me from smokings various related ailments, so this is what I am always on the lookout for. If you want something with a hint of fruitiness go for the jars. If you want to put it in a pipe and smoke it, peruse the pipe counter. If you want some very colorful cigarettes for a night out go for the dubiously brightly coloured Ziganoffs. Obviously smoking is bad for you, but some times I do it more in defence of all these pro-​lifers, a bit of poison can be a rewarding experience.

Of all the Brighton tobacconists, Taylor’s is one of the few where I don’t feel overwhelmed. This is, partially, to do with Taylor’s not stocking the oh-​so-​typical-​for-​Brighton selection of bongs and the like. You see, Taylor’s is a tobacconists, unlike what so many of Brighton’s druggy little side-​alley shops claim to be. This is a place to buy cigarettes, pipes, loose tobacco and cigars, and the choice and quality is a lovely change from Brighton’s drug obsession. If you’re a smoker, but aren’t into all that, Taylor’s is definitely for you.
I phase in and out of smoking; some weeks, I’ll be fine with nothing at all, maybe one with a drink with friends but nothing more, on other weeks it’ll be 5 a day, every day. I’m glad I’ve kicked my 10 – 20 a day habit from my first few years of university, but can’t quite get rid of smoking completely. I think I enjoy it too much: I used to smoke a pipe, I still smoke cigars, I enjoy the paraphenalia. Thus, Taylor’s is a guilty pleasure for me, a seventh heaven of smells and delights, everything a casual-​to-​serious smoker might be interested in.
For the basic cigarette smokers, Taylor’s stock a wide variety of cigarettes, from the most common to the more obscure brands. I wouldn’t want to make my regular brand one of these more expensive obscurities, but every now and again having one of these is a pleasant alternative. The selection of rolling tobacco is big, including a lot of the more flavoured varieties. If you’re looking to try out a pipe, Taylor’s have a large stock, different tobaccos to try, and advice on upkeep and the like is friendly and forthcoming.
However, my favourite will always be the cigars. The selection at Taylor’s is great, and the fact that they have a special room to keep them in at just the right humidity is proof of how much they care. Like my taste in wine’s, I will gladly drink plonk and smoke Hamlets, but every now and again I pop to Taylor’s and have a real treat. Thinking about it, it’s been a while since I’ve done that…
If you’re a smoker, pop into Taylor’s to try everything you’ve ever wanted to in tobacco terms. If you don’t smoke, don’t start, it’s an expensive and dirty habit. It doesn’t make you cool, it just kills you. Slowly. Seriously, don’t start, but if you’re already hooked, relish some different ways of smoking here!

As a smoker I don’t know if I would go with chocolate or cherry but, if you fancy a different flavour every day of the week they’ll have one. Not only do they do tobacco for hand-​rolls and pipes, they have PROPER cigars for those special occasions. I shave with an open-​razor and had ran out of soup. I hadn’t shaved for several days so, I popped in too see if they had a stick or a cake of soup. Oh yeah, they do shaving stuff too. It was then that I was introduced to a lather of my dreams! Ditch the can foam guys!!! Get a brush and tub of cream. You won’t look back I promise.

If you are a smoker and you like roll ups then I suggest you look this place up. Its a proper old style tobacconist in the North lanes. It’s run by a very nice gentleman who is always so friendly and helpful, and very kindly overlooks my standing there for ages, looking at the million different jars of tobacco, trying to decide between chocolate or cherry flavour.
