Preston Park Railway Station

Preston Park is a small railway station in Brighton that connects the main Brighton station with both Victoria and London Bridge. Not all the trains stop here so its normally a choice of heading further into Brighton to get the fast train, or taking the shorter taxi ride to Preston Park and catching the slower train. There is also a service into Hove from this station.
Unfortunately, there is no taxi rank at this station, a bit of a pain when you arrive at 1am from the airport and its raining! They have a car park but it only has 3 spaces!
A handy little station, just a little lacking on facilities.

I used to use this station to get to work and come home from. Trains were pretty much always on time (which is unusual for southern rail!) however there was always a lack of staff around to ask for help, rarely anyone in the ticket booth which was extremely frustrating when for a short period the touchscreen booth was broken and no staff were around therefore I had no choice but to just get on and then explain at the other end when I got off! Since then I have noticed one side of the platforms have been refurbished or widened? So at least they’re putting some effort into the station. However the underpass and stairs are still always grotty and usually stink of pee!

Ideal for bunking the fare to Brighton, this station is not rated by authories who refuse to staff it, improve the grubby subway or incrase the small number of off-​peak services.
Shame reallyit is perfect for the events in Preston Park like the Circus, Party in the Park, Pride and the Withdean Stadium for Brighton and Hove Albion FC. there is a good pub just outside the station for meeting people and be aware that the mile between here and Brigton station sees the railway line on a very high viaduct over town, so if you need to get off the train here, make sure you use this station because following the railway line back is problematic.

This is a small suburban station just over a mile north of Brighton station, and is also served by some of the rush-​hour trains which run to and from the West Coastway line via Hove. It is quiet during most of the day, but busy during the rush hour.
Although the line to Brighton was opened in 1841, the station was opened (as simply ‘Preston’) in 1869 as the suburbs in the area developed around the nucleus of a small village of the same name. It was renamed Preston Park in 1879.
The station has two long island platforms, although there are only 3 platform faces now in use. There is a ticket office on the main London-​bound platform, which also has a ticket machine for when the ticket office is closed. The toilets are open when the ticket office is open.
There are steps from the rather dingy subway to all platforms and no level access. There are exits to both Woodside Avenue on the west and Station Road/​Clermont Road to the east.
The typical off-​peak service includes 3 trains an hour to Brighton, 2 to Bedford via London Blackfriars and an hourly service to Watford Junction via Clapham Junction. On Sundays this reduces to an hourly Brighton and London service.
