A lovely little family run business serving up super fresh seafood — everything from deep fried crabs claws to squid to white bait to great smoked fish. Well worth a visit and very reasonable prices in amongst the more touristy places.

This place does the best whitebait and the best mackerel sandwiches ever. This couple have dedicated their life to quality fish, God bless them!

Some things are so good and so right that it’s hard to imagine that they haven’t always been there. You could easily imagine that the Smoke House, down on what Brightonians used to call the Lower Beach(basically the seafront not far from the merry-go-round), has been there since the Prince Regent leapt out of his bathing machine and into the briny way back in 1800. But you’d be wrong. Astonishingly, it hasn’t even been there much more than ten years. Get yourself down there. Grab a crab sandwich, a hot mackerel roll or a cup of delicious hot fish soup and you’ll be enchanted. This is fast food with style and class. Good natural ingredients, a lovely seaside setting and old fashioned friendly service make this place a Brighton gem. Jack and Linda smoke much of the produce themselves making them the guardians of a great Brighton tradition. And don’t just take my word for it: ask the experts. The Smoke House has been recognized as something special by the BBC Radio 4 Food & Farming Awards.

Known and loved throughout Brighton, this is one of those absolutely traditional places that will never modernise, however much changes in the world. Having opened in 2004, here you can buy a host of fish based goods like Mackerel pâté, fish soup and a number of other locally caught items. They sell a number of weekly and daily specials that will vary depending on what the local fisherman have caught. If you like fish then there should be no question, you will definitely be a fan of Jack and Linda’s.

Something smells fishy at Jack & Linda’s seaside smoke house. Jack & Linda’s smokehouse on the Brighton seafront, has become as much of the pier’s landscape as the pebbles on the beach. Located just beside the Fishing Museum, this cottage like fish shop serves up the best-smoked fish this side of the channel. A Brighton institution for the last 11 years, Jack & Linda(former Fishermen) feed hungry locals and tourists alike with natural freshly salted smoked fish. The actual smokehouse was built by Jack & Linda, and uses only traditional techniques for the smoking process. Meaning that only Oak and Applewood is used, avoiding any chemicals or preservatives. This Mom & Pop operation provides local scrumptious seafood for a price that doesn’t make you feel like you’re being hooked. Sandwiches usually come with a small salad on the side, but the smoked Mackerel on a breadroll will be plenty if you come hungry. Other options include fresh fish soup, crab and sardine sandwiches and Kippers. Make sure to check the arch for the daily specials. Jack & Linda’s are open daily

Jack and Linda are an elderly couple who have been running a smoke house on the sea front for a long time. It is a real gem in brighton and if you like fish then you should have a look.
