One of my favorite pubs in Brighton. Great music and a pub different from the others!

Cool atmosphere, but the Mexican food is awful! Probably the worst I’ve ever had. Everything was bland. Hire a chef who knows ANYTHING about authentic Mexican cuisine.

WARNING I found out because a member of staff walk out in front of a bus & the bus STOP, The management are saying this is a reason not let people have the right to go in to the pub. The staff member was punishing the mirror with his fist so if you have trouble makes working for you I think the problem is the staff. This is not a great places to drink

Bringing La Choza(and their amazing Mexican food) to London road via Hare & Hounds was a stroke of genius! I had not heard great things about this pub before the makeover, but there seems to have been a lot of effort put into the décor and building a new reputation for the place. I always enjoy the food here, even if it’s not quite as good as La Choza(where I rarely think to book a table and always leave disappointed) but the fact you will always find a seat here is brilliant. Might be showing my age here, but I can’t stand a loud bar. Hare & Hounds is loud, but not so much it would put me off coming back; it’s one of those places I quite often find myself gravitating to. If you’re a fan of ale or cider, it’s worth the trip just to sample the variety on offer here, I especially enjoy the guest cider as it changes regularly and is always interesting.

The new look is great with a funky vibe and good music. The staff were friendly. Sadly it then went wrong. We were told a 30 min wait for food. It came after over an hour. The poor food staff were going spare that people were being lied to. The food was good apart from the ‘nacho cheese dip’ being a small pile of grated mild cheese? Then the DJ arrived. The music became loud as distorted. I asked the staff to turn it down as most of the people in our area were suffering. A pregnant lady was feeling nauseous due to the loud base making the seats vibrate. Most people had the ear nearest the speaker covered to talk to each other. The manager eventually came over to discuss it with me. After shouting the problem to her twice she still could not hear me. Frustrated I informed her as loud as I could that if the volume didn’t get turned down we would leave. She then accused me of being rude. The volume went down for about 20 mins but then went back up, we left. It is a shame. Lots of potential.

I do really like the new make over that’s happened, it is a bit loud but great for a loud group who want to chat, the burritos aren’t as good as they are in La Choza itself BUT the Meantime Ale is lovely and we had a brilliant bar man who was a order memory machine! Good vibes.

The pub is a microbrewery and the beer is very nice. The pub is open plan with a variety of table and seating arrangements. Its a popular pub probably a bit on the loud side for quiet conversation but its an enjoyable place to be.

The make over of this pub earlier this year meant that I was really interested in visiting(having walked past quickly over the years as it wasn’t to my taste in the old style). It specialises in craft beers and has a La Choza mexican street food kitchen. My first experience was very late on a Thursday night and it was clearly a hip student place to be(music was way too loud for my taste though). I’ve since been back on a Saturday and Sunday and had drinks and food pre-cinema(the Duke of York’s is handily across the road). The craft beer is delicious(Mean Time) and the food is delicious(if you like Mexican that is). It’s all very hip and laid back(though with a real mix of clientele which makes it interesting), plus there’s a garden out the back. Inside there’s a mix of tables, high and low, plus a series of diner inspired booths which are great fun to grab. The staff have also been very friendly each time I’ve been. It’s one of my favourite new spots to the increasingly re-vamped London Road stretch.

Having known this pub as ‘The Hydrant’ for many years(which, personally, I did not have wonderful things to say about) I was very pleasantly surprised when I met my friends here for a drink the other evening. The interior has transformed and now embodies a cool, dimly lit, American vibe, with booths and a very converted warehouse feel. I was very boring and opted for a house white wine, which was nice, but it looked like if you were a lover of ales and ciders there were plenty of exciting options to choose from. The place was buzzing which, for a Tuesday night quite far from the centre of town, is rather impressive. The best discovery about this place is that it has teamed with La Choza, one of Brighton’s tastiest Mexican restaurants, and will be serving a selection of their food! Not only will this be delicious, no doubt, it might be a good way of eating La Choza food without the usual wait that comes attached to the busy and popular restaurant. I give this place 4 stars. I will go back, and I will eat, and I’ll return to this review once I have.

A great pub now. At last the old reputation seems to be behind it. I love a Sunday here with all the live sport and good value food. 3 real ales too which were well kept.

This place is a bit hit and miss. I’ve had some good times here but Red Stripe on tap is £3.80 which is extortionate for a local pub. Staff are very nice though. Wouldn’t recommend the food it’s nothing special. Average pub.

This is a pub that is probably aimed at students although the clientele were from a wide age range. It has a fairly plain style about it. The night we visited there was a live band playing, and this is a regular occurance on Fridays and Saturdays. The staff were friendly, and we were made to feel welcome. They had run out of one of the real ales and the other ran out just after we were served. But it was the best pint of Harveys that I’ve had in a long time. There is free wifi here, no password or anything — just connect and go., which is very handy. I think I’ll be popping in here again, if only for the Harveys and the wifi! It’s only got four stars, because I still prefer a pub with that traditional feel to it.

Didn’t have Real ale last time I was here. The crowd is very youthful. Loud music can be heard all times. Live acts up stairs. Forgot to look to see if they did food. It has a raw feel to it. Not everyones cup of tea. Staff not very attentive.
