We went to coggins today on a sunny Sunday afternoon, got the chance to sit in their sun trap of a garden which was great as I had never even knew they had one. This was our 3rd visit to eat in and we had a takeaway once also. I find eating here a bit frustrating at times, the things they do well they do really well(courgette fries, coconut milkshake on today’s evidence) but other things just fall into the ok category(the burgers and today the onion rings). Thing is the first time we went the fries and onion rings were the best I’d ever had, but a year later they aren’t the same. The burgers I have always found a bit dry but in fairness the Brighton blue I had today was the best I’d ever had here but still short on the quality found at burger brothers or lucky beach which for me are the best in town). The buns have also been a bit burnt the last two times we went which is great for me but not my wife. Still a really nice afternoon and the staff we great, very friendly and nothing too much trouble. I’d want to give 3.5 but you can’t on here but a better than average place to eat.

We went there on Sunday and back again today to spend a Christmas gift voucher. Our Sunday visit earned us a 2−4−1 deal, making it on the whole a pretty economical deal. Burgers each time were cooked medium, and on the sloppier side of being edible with one hand. Accompanying chips and salad were very tasty, and given the choice of beng cooked in veg oil or beef dripping is nice. I didn’t have a shake this time, but from previous visits can highly recommend those too. The coffee today was ok, but not to coffee shop standards. Why 4 stars and not 5? I’d give this 4.5 stars if I could, but in all honesty I think it’s too pricey for a 5 star review. There are better burger bars in Brighton that are cheaper, if a little rougher around the edges(Lucky Beach and Trolls Pantry, in particular). I guess their costs are higher being in a prime Seven Dials spot, but £11.50 for burger and chips is to me a bit excessive. It would have been nice to be asked how I wanted it cooked, and a wider range of condiments would help too.
