Chopstick Express

Ok Brightonians, let’s face it — we really aren’t blessed with good Chinese take-​aways. Places like the midlands put us to shame. But, I don’t think Chopsticks Express is a bad choice at all. I like Danny’s, but it’s expensive and a bit far away. Plus, Chopstick’s Szechuan chicken blows Danny’s’ out the water.
Maybe it’s a bit of a generous rating but given the ‘competition’ it’s really not.
Decent prices and a speedy delivery. Nice.
The duck is good as are most things on the menu, I’d maybe be a bit wary of anything with beef as it can be tough but I find that with most Asian food when ordering beef.
I love the Szechuan chicken!
This place is reliable and affordable. Plus I love the Chinese lady I speak to on the phone. She’s a scream.

Chopstick Express is a family run takeaway that provides everything you’ve come to expect from a ‘Chinese’.
The prices are all decent, perhaps even slightly cheap. The food sold is perfectly adequate and everytime I’ve been here I’ve generally had no complaints. I tend to go for the ‘beef in black bean sauce’ and ‘crispy shredded beef’, both of which I could eat happily on most days.
Chopstick doesn’t exactly tick all the boxes, but it certainly ticks enough that you won’t feel like your money has been wasted. For £15 you can have a meal for 3 people looking to stuff their faces until you feel like exploding, something that cannot be said for all takeaways.

Just off London Road on Bakers Street there is something that may never have known existed if not for me-​vegetarian duck!
How mad is that? So what is it then? Well, it’s a gluten based dish and looks a little bit like jellied dog food, but don’t be put off. It, like most vegetarian hybrids, doesn’t actually taste like its carnivorous counterpart but it is an interesting alternative-​if only for an anecdote.
But regardless of anecdotes, Chopstick’s is worth spending an evenings worth of takeaway time on.

I can’t believe I’m the first to review this place! Ok, I know it’s only a take-​away but this is a hidden gem. The choice is huge here, and everything is really tasty and not too expensive. Service is quick, you get free prawn crackers and the staff are lovely. If I’m ever stuck for take-​out it’s the first Chinese I think of.
Veggie options great too — you can even get Vegetarian Duck! …which is delicious by the way but I highly recommend the Prawn Chinese Curry and Squid wit salt & chilli.
