I don’t know how shops like Card Factory keep going. I must have walked past the shop hundreds of times and don’t think I’ve ever seen a soul inside. I’m not surprised either as the stock is appalling. Alongside bland wrapping paper, ribbons and gift tags, there’s aisles of unimaginative and mediocre birthday, good luck, moving home, funeral and get well cards. If you want something for an elderly, distant relative or neighbour, you’ll find plenty to choose from. If you want a card that’s funny or beautiful however, try one of the dozens of independent card shops in the North Laines.

Oh, dear. It’s almost Valentine’s Day. I think corporate card and gift shops have an agreed upon date that stock for the next holiday gets put up on the shelves. And this one had a LOT of stock. Gross.
Other than the Valentine’s infestation, there were some basic gift ideas: pens, key chains, personalised trinkets and stuffed animals. Also, some practical things like blue tak, tape, gift bags and wrapping paper. The greeting card selection was decent — with one collection on at 10 for £1. Wowy.
The two girls behind the counter were quite grumpy, and my theory is that it was having to look at all that Valentine’s crap all day.

Wonderfully imaginative name… NOT! The Card Factory does exactly what it says on the sign (except it would be better called «Card Shop», because I didn’t see any card-​making machinery) selling an abundance of cards for almost every occasion. I think this sort of place is great to go for someone a little bit special, but not too special. The cards are fun and relatively tasteful. The prices are great, but if you want something a little more unique for that EXTRA special someone, then you need to head for the Laines. Otherwise, this place serves its purpose and at the end of the day, that’s not a bad thing.
