Bom-Bane’s

This restaurant is the stuff of hallucinogenic dreams. My table had a salt shaker which made the chimes on the wall play. Another table spins, another goes up and down, another has Brighton pier along with its own tidal wave feature!
Not only that, but the goats cheese salad with beautiful, the owner came and had a chat with us and was really friendly. Wine was good, great selection.
I just had a really good time! I think that’s the defining thing for me — that I left feeling really happy, full and having a new experience in a tiny restaurant which was like looking into the owners imagination.
Go to Bom Banes — I guarantee if you have a sense of humour you’ll have a really good time. Just don’t take it too seriously.

Well you’ve already heard about the wackiness of the place, a unique little slice of Brighton. I can also testify to the friendliness of the staff — when our party started taking own the musical instruments from the walls and having our own jam session they seemed to be delighted and joined in… The food for group booking was very plain fare but well made and served in an atmosphere you won’t experience very often. Go. Enjoy!

Those with eccentric characters suit this best. I went here with a group from work for our Christmas meal tonight. The food was excellent quality and downstairs had a homey feel. (the back car seat was a little odd) they had singing and offered us to join in however the majority of my colleagues and I are a little too reserved. That aside I had an enjoyable evening and thoroughly enjoyed the food!

Bom-Bane’s is another Brighton speciality tucked away in a little assuming side street — but its well worth the trek. We were a party of birthday celebrators and quite happy in our own group but we just loved the entertainment that was fresh from their spot at the Edinburgh Fringe! Go and see for yourself

From the plaster figure of a Jane Bom-​Bane herself above the front window to the mechanical tables inside, everything about Bom-​Banes is eye-​grabbing.
Luckily style does not completely swamp content the menu features hearty Belgian fare which should ensure you leave the restaurant with a full stomach and a head full of music and laughter. At the heart of the cooking here is stoemp mashed potato, vegetables and, if you like, bacon.
After a plate of stoemp and sausages washed down with Belgian Beer followed by a Big Bombowski (vodka, Kahlua, milk and cream), you might think your mind is playing tricks with you as the entertainment unfolds. Just to prove it isn’t here is the inimitable Jane Bom-​Bane performing for the diners.

A cute, petite little restaurant in the Kemptown area, Bom-Bane’s is a delightful place to stop off for a quick bite, or have a nice evening meal, along with a variety of different monthly events. The food sis lovely, home-​cooked with a large blast of originality (Belgian-​European-​Moroccan?), and the atmosphere is pleasantly convivial. In short, a nice place, and great for any time of the day.
Bom-Bane’s has more character in its little finger than most other restaurants in Brighton, which is simultaneously it biggest weakness and greatest attribute. The music nights are really great, as are all of the film nights, singing-​staff nights, etc, but this vibrant originality does also make Bom-Bane’s a poor choice for a place to try and have a relaxed meal in. It’s event-​dining, and as such requires the right sort of characters to attend. Quiet, shy or diffident people might find this all a bit much.

Bom Banes is an absolutely fantastic one of kind place that you’ll only find in Brighton. It has a sort of rustic Mediterranean/​Moroccan theme with deep colored walls and instruments placed around the place. The menu is primarily Belgian, they also function as a day time coffee house and have regular live music and movie night. The fab feature of this pace is the ‘musical evening’ where customers are entertained by the staff who burst into song!

Bom Bane’s is the kind of place that you go to when you want a lovely night out in Brighton. Owner and harmonist Jane runs a very friendly and fun musical feast of a night out alongside her partner Nick Pynn who provides some fantastical music on any stringed instrument you could possibly imagine and some which have surpassed imagination.
The whole experience is filled with great laughs, great music, hearty food (accommodating for vegans), and a wide range of unusual and strong beers and ales from Kasteel, to Brugse Zot, as well as a wide range of wines and cocktails.
The running theme of crazy hats is worked into a series of sing along songs that will keep anyone of any age entertained. And occasionally there are the Bom Bane’s musicals, which for £25 per head you receive a 3 course meal and a wonderful night full of music that will sometimes even explore what is upon your plate. Booking ahead is necessary because tickets sell out fast in this little venue.

Local guitar legend Michael Watts took me for my first meal to Bom-Bane’s for lunch, around the corner from his shop in Brighton, England. Bom-​banes is a licensed café-​restaurant with basement musical venue owned by musicians Jane Bom-​Bane and Nick Pynn.
We were greeted by the owners Jane and Nick who wasted no time in getting us seated comfortably at a table near the window. Michael lifted up a candle from the table to reveal a small switch which triggered some art on the wall to come alive for our entertainment. Quirky is an understatement here!
The food.
The menu is continental, in San Francisco we’d call it ‘comfort food’.
I chose Stoemp and Pork Sausage — delicious! Stoemp is a Belgian purée of mashed potatoes, cream, herbs and in this case some spinach, carrots, and other root vegetables that made for an incredibly tasty base for the sausage.
The sausage was grilled to perfection, and really provided a lovely meal for lunch.
Being a Belgian establishment, the restaurant features a well-​stocked list of Belgian beers as well as select German and French wines.
After lunch Nick took us downstairs to check out the musical venue which comes alive at night-​time with Mandolin, Guitar, and other folk/​progressive music. Nick gave me a copy of his new acoustic album and I promised to return for an over-​night stay in Brighton to catch an evening concert on a future occasion.
When in Brighton, be sure and check out Bom-Bane’s. It’s quirky, but it’s awesome comfort food with wonderful music and not to be missed!

Bom Bane’s is a truly quirky (a word I normally loathe, but does the job here) independent restaurant hidden away in Kemp Town. This place is crazy! If the figurehead of the lady with the fruit on her head outside, doesn’t give something of Bom Bane’s eccentricity away, the interior certainly will! In the street-​level dining area, the tables are customized with cartoons, drawings and models. As Samantha C. suggests, the décor of the downstairs has a Moroccan or Middle-​Eastern feel and serves as a lounge and a music venue. The owners are musicians themselves and if you’re lucky, you might find them tinkering on the many instruments or singing a song as your food arrives!
The menu comprises a limited selection of Belgian dishes. However, the lack of options is heavily compensated for by the calibre of the tasty home cooking. Our favourites were the Stoemp and sausages and the clever ‘five a day in a bowl’, which comes in the form of a delicious chunky stew. It feels as if the owners have created a café based entirely on their own passions… hearty food, great music and lively atmosphere. How refreshing it is to see people really putting something of themselves into their business– and what a success it has been– Bom Banes’ is full of spirit and joy!
I attempted an impromptu meal here recently, forgetting how popular it is… massive mistake… be warned you have no chance of rocking up on a Friday or Saturday night and getting a table.

Bom Banes is a really unique venue, the interior has an almost Moroccan vibe with a rustic spiral staircase, dark red and purple walls and old guitars and lanterns.
Its a modern European restaurant specialising in Belgian food, they also function as a coffee house and music venue. You may have seen the establishment in Kemp Town, it has fiberglass woman hanging from the outside with fruit on her head!
Live music can be found there on a regular basis downstairs from the restaurant. They also have movie nights and Bom Bane the musical where customers are entertained by the singing staff! Its a really interesting place to grab a morning coffee or evening bite.

This place is utterly unique and full of the quirkiness that you associate with the laid back and whacky side of Brighton. I absolutely loved it!
It’s just stuffed with character. Why, is actually very hard to explain. It’s going to sound weird when I write it. Each table upstairs has eccentric qualities that you won’t see anywhere else (I can’t tell you more as that would spoil the surprise). Which is just like the owners; who are friendly, helpful and crazy. We only went in for lunch but ended up having an impromptu rendition of their fantastic song ‘reverse boy’. It’s all totally mad. In a really good way.
They have regular musical and film events which I’m definitely going to go to. Sing-​along-​a-​Wickerman anyone?..
And the food tastes fantastic too. Good European fare with off the beaten track beers and cocktails. But frankly, it all plays second fiddle to the atmosphere in the place. You have to experience it at least once. I bet kids would love it too — they have a homework club on Wednesdays 4−6pm.

Wonderful quirky little place which is only open a few days a week, so check before you head there. The food is delicious and hearty, with a real home cooked feel. Bangers and mash are the best I’ve had in Brighton. The ground floor only has a few tables, one of which has a working model of the pier inside it. Each table has a quirky name. Downstairs is a cosy room that looks like a brilliant space for a birthday party. Well worth checking out.
