It’s the second time I’ve been here and this time it was for lunch. My friends and I all thoroughly enjoyed our two courses. The food was all fresh and it was extremely filling. We loved the ‘traditionally’ homely winter food feel of the menu in particular. The restaurant was cosy and perfect for a girls lunch. I would definitely visit again for lunch or dinner.

Lovely pub-restaurant, newly refurbished. Our waitress was exceptionally helpful with recommending dishes. My starter of sautéed mushrooms in Stilton sauce has a nice flavour and smooth creaminess. The main was more average, the side bubble and squeak could have used more seasoning. All in all, a good place to have a relaxing meal.

Ultimately very disappointing. The ambience in this pub/restaurant(sorry, «country pub & kitchen» is warm and inviting and the menu promised rare breed pork & the like… so we felt it was worth a try. The one good thing I can say is the staff were very nice, turned down the thumping jukebox when asked(it was lunch time) and immediately gave us an apology and a refund. The food was truly a let-down. My starter of goats cheese & caramalised onion tart was good enough, but rather skimpy on the ingredients for the price. My partner’s scallops were very small and served on an ice old slab of slate(looks nice but please warm it up a bit before putting food on it), adequately cooked but instantly forgettable. The main courses were worse — my partner’s pasta was limp and overcooked. My burger was an abomination — what surely must have been a cheap frozen burger, scorched to within an inch of it’s life. It was the colour and texture of wet cardboard. Truly wretched — and for £10! It went back. As I say, the staff were gracious enough but whoever is running that kitchen should be ashamed of themselves.
