History

Established in 1958.

Abels Moving Services Limited were established in the English county of Norfolk in 1958, removals (moving) were initially an offshoot from the Abel family auctioneering business delivering sale items to customers. Under the ownership of Mr Noël Abel, the firm branched out into domestic house moves under the name «The Safe Removal Company.» As an auctioneer Noël’s reputation was everything, so a culture of doing the work right was established from the outset. The company changed to Abels in 1971 when Noël’s son Tony joined the business as a 17 year old who preferred trucks to auctioneering. The head office was in Watton-​Norfolk where an 8 acre site was purchased for developing the storage and packing operation. Later expanding the business with facilities in Huntingdon-​Cambridgeshire (1981), St Albans-​Hertfordshire (1984), Colchester-​Essex (1986), Brandon-​Suffolk (1988) Ely-​Cambridgeshire (2005) and Northampton (2005).
