Women & Theatre are one of Birmingham’s theatrical gems. They’re hard-working, well-researched, community-focussed and with a great sense of humour. Their shows are usually developed through community research, which makes them relevant, engaging and meaningful to their audiences. Obviously, as you’d probably guess from the title, they aim to represent women’s experiences in particular — though not exclusively. They also do shows for and with kids as well as educational and health-based projects and productions. It all sounds very worthy, but to balance out all the serious business, they often inject a big dollop of humour into their work, and run various comedy courses and comedy evenings.
