The worst Caribbean meal I have ever had! My partner and I decided to try Soupera Taste on a Saturday night. I called to place an order only to find a number of items from the menu were not available. We eventually ordered two large Curry Goat meals and four fried dumplings. We were told that it would not be ready for collection for 40 minutes. Whilst we thought that this was a long time but were still keen to try it. When my partner arrived 40 minutes later nothing had been prepared so he had to wait a further 20 minutes for the dumplings to be cooked and the remaining food to be prepared and bagged. When placing the order I was asked if I would like the food hot or cold. I told them I wanted it heated but when my partner collected it they told him to heat it up at home otherwise he would have to wait another 10 minutes bringing the total waiting time to 70 minutes! Being of Caribbean decent myself, I have eaten a lot of Caribbean food, both in the UK and abroad, and therefore know what the dishes should taste like. Yet, when we got the food home and eventually sat down to eat we found that the dumplings were 90% raw, the rice was stodgy and the meat was questionable. I ended up throwing away the majority of my meal. It was all extremely disappointing. I definitely would not visit this establishment again and do not recommend it to anyone else.

I have to give this place a very bad review(although the food was tasty) as me and my friend has the curried mutton and it made us both ill. The only reason I’m not giving it one star because it was tasty at the time. Come on guys get your act together!!!

I have been back in here three times since the last review and have been more and more delighted each time with the quality of their food. I like to go there in the afternoon, I have done this on two occasions of the three, and have had the food served to me cold. They put it in a microwavable container wrapped in cling film and I take it home and put it in the refrigerator. Later, when I’m super relaxed, just before the soaps start, I pierce the container with a fork multiple times and put the container in the microwave for 8 minutes. This is the best time for a large portion. After four minutes I stop the microwave and give the food a stir, then put it back in. The food comes out piping hot and I serve a large portion on 2 plates for two hungry people ready to eat. The dumplings only take a minute or so to heat and they accompany the meal. Last night I had brown stew, 2x dumpling, rice beans and pea, and vegetables, all for 7.50. The dinner was the nicest meal I have eaten for a long time. It was something special.

I found the staff in Soupera Taste to be very friendly. I popped in just after they had opened to grab a menu and they were very forthcoming and smiley. I would be at MoJams in Moseley more often if it was that little bit closer so a Caribbean takeaway popping up on my high street was a very big deal for me. One lunch time I was stuck for what to eat and having visited Jamaica I had a pang of nostalgia and decided to grab an ackee and saltfish for me and my mum along with a couple of dumplings(has there ever been a better accompaniment created?!) I really rated the taste, it was as good as the ackee and saltfish a local made for me and my friends in Ochi Rios last summer with ackee picked straight from the tree. I was preparing myself for quite a wait but service was rapid. Walking past again I see they have now set up a table so not necessarily just a takeaway either.

Oh yes! Moseley have had their Caribbean food joint in the form of Mo’ Jam for years now, so it was with eyes the size of huge plates of jerk chicken that I eagerly spied Soupera Taste on Kings Heath High Street. The menu has exactly what you’d expect; jerk chicken, curry goat, dumplings, saltfish, ackee, callaloo, mutton broth. Soupera Taste aren’t trying to re-invent the wheel here. They are providing classic Caribbean food in a location where its much wanted. When I think of Carribean food, I think meaty, salty, carbohydratey soul food. And that’s exactly what I get in the form of my(unadventurous, I know) choice of jerk chicken. And I’m very happy with the taste and the portion size. The staff will gladly answer any questions you have as far as the menu goes and they’ll do it with a smile.
