Good atmosphere and location, 2 floors and large outdoor areas sitting alongside the canal. Great for a few drinks after work or for bar hopping. it can get very crowded and bar service can be quite slow in the evening but overall it’s a nice place.

In the shadow of the International Convention Centre is a selection of bars and places to eat. One such place is the Pitcher and Piano. I only seem to come here when my dad gets a cocktail or beer voucher and the staff are pretty nice at making my free drink for me. If I were visiting Birmingham and had time for lunch or an afternoon drink I’d probably come here. However it’s not on my list of night time venues to visit. Nice for watching the world go by and the tables are great for groups. It’s pretty easy to reserve at table for a few hours in an evening so great for having a birthday drink or two. The lower ground level is right on the canal with a small terrace to enjoy.

Pitcher& Piano is a nicely decorated café restaurant right in the heart of the city, just off Broad Street. The terrace overlooking the canal is amazing. Fish Finger Buttie is crunchy and tasty. This place is definitely worth to try… #pitcherandpiano #bhameats #bham #birmingham #foodie #foodart #fishfingerbuttie

Canal side location, good cocktails, great atmosphere and not too expensive… what is there not to like?! Me and a couple of mates decided this would be the location for a catch up over a couple of drinks this week. The whole place is very well designed, had some well selected background music and a lovely mix of people enjoying Monday evening to its fullest. The upstairs bar is where you will find the best atmosphere, but if you a re looking for a more quiet/intimate vibe try the downstairs bar area or beautifully lit outside space. A bar definitely worth a try and a firm favourite of mine in the Brindley Place area.

Visited the Pitcher & Piano on a sunny Saturday day time. A great location overlooking the canal. It was very busy due to the weather but we still got great waitress service. Had a cocktail, a glass of house white and some grazers. Food was lovely and well presented. Drinks were spot on but we did wait a while, can’t complain too much as it was mega busy. If I were to go with a big group I would certainly book a table as it seems a lot of people did this and it was well organised by the staff. Definitely a classy place for a bite to eat and drinks with friends.

I like that the place offers waiter service, which is unusual for a bar. The staff are always very attentive, even on a busy Saturday night. Food is good and so are the drinks offered.

Pitcher and Piano Birmingham have great offers! Each month I seem to notice a free drink offer slip into my inbox. Usually you get the choice of a beer or a cocktail, for free(!), which is just fine by me. This means that Adam S. and I visit the Pitcher fairly regularly, often en route to the cinema or when passing through Brindleyplace(and don’t usually spend anything). It is worth signing up for their mailing list! However, it isn’t just the freebies that make the Pitcher a nice place to come for a drink. The bar is spacious but feels nice and cosy, particularly downstairs, with nice smart furnishings and open fireplaces. It has a loungey feel and is a comfortable place for a spot of weekend afternoon boozing. The bar’s position right next to the canal also makes for some nice views, particularly in the summer when you can take advantage of the canalside outdoor area. The Pitcher offers a well stocked bar and a nice cocktail menu — the House Cocktails are worth a try. On a recent visit on a Sunday afternoon I went for a seasonal mulled wine, which was lovely.

WOW what a great find! Such a nice bar what overlooks the canal and the barge boats going by, its in a lovely little square with a few others bars and restaurants and across the bridge is the ICC birmingham, there is two floors one at the bottom with seating outside if its a nice day and an upstairs bar which is large and also has an outdoor terrace, its a great bar and has some lovely views. they also do great drinks and if you sign up to pitcher and piano they sometimes give you a free drink. BONUS! It was a bit of a grey day when we went though but we will go back and sit outside next time.

The view of the canal is amazing in the window seats here. We popped in for a sticky toffee pudding. The portion was very large. However, the inside was dry. It was served with vanilla ice cream. I got my husband’s ice cream so a double portion of ice cream helped with the dryness! The latte was good. I can’t review the food menu so I am giving it a A-OK…based on the dessert only I would give it a MEH… I’ve experienced better.

On the last night in town and wanted to visit Birmingham before catching an early flight in the morning. Visited most of the establishments nearby and this was the favorite by far. A good mix of ages in the place, a friendly wait staff and excellent bartenders. Had a great time making new friends!

I loved the free WiFi and seats at the edge of the canal. Food was good. Felt a bit ignored by staff during the first visit; considering we were the only patrons when we arrived & they chatted with each other for 10 – 15 minutes before acknowledging us.

This is a great bar that can get extremely busy at the weekends, so if you are meeting friends here I would advise getting here early if you would like to sit down. This appears to be a popular bar with all ages, and is a great meeting place to kick start the weekend or to meet for pre dinner drinks. The bar is spilt on two levels. The music can be loud but you can still have a conversation! There is also a seated area which would be great for a balmy Summers afternoon or evening.

It’s a handsome place, part of a revitalized canal-front that was one both the epicenter of the industrial revolution and also the poster child of late 20th century economic stagnation. This whole area has been gutted and modernized, but it still retains the brick and timber feel of yesteryear. The Sunday lunch offerings are nicely priced and hugely portioned. I simply found the food, while abundant, was overall bland. The beef was thick, but dry and leathery. The gravy was plentiful but didn’t taste like it was made by a chef. I liked the Yorkshire pud, but there was nothing remarkable about the potatoes and veg. It seemed they were trying to impress with volume, but I would have preferred a smaller portion with a bit more uniqueness and punch. Service-wise, the staff were very friendly but not attentive or quick. I had to walk to the bar for refills of my drink, was never checked on, and had to flag down someone to pay. It wasn’t bad… just not a well-oiled machine, which you’d expect in the city that invented them.

I love this place, always have and always will. In the winter a seat by the fire and a bottle of wine In the summer a seat anywhere outside with a pitcher of beer or pimms The friday/saturday night atmosphere is good, chav free because the music is not loud enough but still a nice fun place BUT the bar does get awfully busy and i think they should and could invest in hiring more bar staff at the peak periods I have eaten here a few times and as always no complaints about the food from me.

Despite being something of a chain-o-phobe, this is one of my favourite places to get drinks in Birmingham. Especially in Summer. It’s set just at the side of the chic and modern Brindley Place, overlooking the canal, orientated so that it catches the afternoon sun as it passes over the canal. So romantic! First things first. You come to a bar to drink, and by Jove are there a good selection of fine beverages on offer here. They have apple ciders, pear ciders, fruit ciders(including my favourites Rekorderlig & Kopparberg). They have lagers and ales on tap and bottled in the fridge. There is wine, there is champagne… even pink champagne. There are alcopops and a pleasingly large selection of spirits. But also dear Unilocalers, there are cocktails. Yummy cocktails of which the ‘house selection’ are buy-one-get-one-free after 5pm, mmm divine. I’ll eat my arm if anyone here can’t find a drink that makes their mouth water. There are two floors, each with ample seating, and each with access to outdoor tables. However, there is only one bar on the top floor. Whilst I have never had to wait long to be served yet, I have never been during peak hours on a Friday or Saturday, which might yield a different story. In the Summer though, my favourite places to sit are outside, and there are three locations to choose from. My favourite is the balcony on the top floor overlooking the canal, there are only 4 tables here and it feels a bit more private, plus it just looks so jolly pretty. If these tables are full I’ll shimmy down the stairs to the tables on canalside, a very peaceful alternative. Occasionally(if the canalside tables are in shadow) I’ll seat myself in the outdoor area at the front of the bar. It is very pleasant here also, though it has the potential to be a bit busier as you find yourself alongside the other establishments of Brindley Place. If, like me, you find yourself spending all afternoon and evening basking in the sunshine whilst sipping your cider… you might suddenly realise you’re quite hungry. But fear not, the food menu has ample choice to fill your belly with. My date and I were feeling rather Mediterranean and opted for sides of falafel and halloumi to match our sharing plate of parmesan, chorizo, olives and ciabatta tasties. It was absolutely scrumptious. But had we been otherwise inclined, there was a lot of variety on the menu that could have taken our fancy, including the intriguingly named ‘Proper Cheese Sandwich’. Pricing is a wee bit extra than what I might normally pay, but I make an exception because it’s always such a lovely experience.

OK, I know its a chain and all, but you know you will get a fairly decent service here when presented with an array of drinking establishments in a big city centre. We got our drinks and nabbed our selves a table on a balcony over looking the canal. Nice! After that round, we nabbed an even nicer table right by the canal, on the same level as the canal. Even better. Here we whiled away an hour or two before heading to the NIA. Other points of note: I really like the glass tankards they serve their pints in here, a real throw back to the old days… or so I was told by one of our party. I don’t really remember. Staff were great, very polite and friendly. A smile everytime. Hurrah!

There are so many chain bars and restaurants in this area. It makes me sick. Homogeneous pap. However, I do sometimes like the consistency of a chain. You know what you are going to get. Therefore, you are far less likely to be disappointed. This place just made me chuckle a few times. When I mentioned to the bartender that the champagne glass he was about to pour my drink into was cracked, he threw it against the wall. Seriously. I returned here after dinner and the young lady behind the bar looked truly put out when I ordered 6 cocktails from her. I asked if she was OK. She said she was just tired. I asked if she was just tired or tired of being there. She said that sleeping was her favourite thing in the world and her job stopped her from doing her favourite thing. Genius. She had no answer to me asking if she were to sleep all of the time, how would she really know if she were happy or just dreaming she was…
