Lai Yin

Used to be good ordered crispy prawns balls sweet and sour but said they only had enough prawns for mixed, when it arrived it was mostly over cooked pork balls 2 prawn and 3 chicken. Chicken randeng had very little sauce , but plenty of chicken which made it very dry. Will not order again, I wonder if under new management as change in quality is day and night.

Oh Lai Yin. we have been using you as our go-​to chinese takeaway for a good five yars and you have never yet let us down…
What can i say? Its a chinese takeaway. Ive only been in the shop once as we tend to order over the phone but there is ample parking (free) outside which is always a bonus.
I first started using Lai Yin for totally practical reasons — they accept credit/​debit cards over the phone… im one of those people that never has cash on me or in the house so this is perfect for me!
The food is REALLY good with an extensive menu which incorporates the usual chinese takeaway stuff but also has a good Chef’s Recommendations section (the Bejing Delight Special, £4.60, is to die for) as well as some good set menus which offer good value for money — Set menu D is supposedly for 2 people but when we have had it weve always had enough left over for a full meal the following evening (and we arent small eaters — we like our food!).
When ordering over the phone the staff are always really helpful — i always ask for special fried rice with no peas (because they are evil, obviously) and i always get my rice with no peas. WIN. as said before you can pay by card over the phone AND im always surprised by how quick it turns up — frequently we are told 30 – 40 minutes and its with us in 20. Cant fault the place at all — definitely the best chinese in the Kings Norton/​West Heath/​Northfield area IMO.
