I am not a fan of fast-food at all. Although I love chips, I prefer chunky chips that are hardly ever available at fast-food joints. But, after a night out, you tend to feel this incessant craving to dig into something greasy and filling. And this is the only time or reason I have been to Kebab Express! They sell halal meat, which I don’t eat. But I always go for their fish and chips with plenty of chilli sauce. The portions are a little stingy but the food tastes pretty good when you’re starving. It tends to get very busy later at night, so don’t be surprised if you’re queuing on the pavement. The service is good but because it gets busy, they tend to work like they’re on a conveyor belt so there’s no time to natter with customers. I think the chips could be chunkier, but that’s just a personal preference.

Kebab Express is located on the stretch of Broad Street between large clubs Risa and Gatecrasher, one of many takeaways looking to lure passing revellers in with the promise of great food that’s terrible for you. Despite the name, Kebab Express is actually a better bet if you’re after a pizza(although I’d personally recommend going further up the road and going to Bella Pizza, but that’s subjective). They’ve got some great deals, the best of which is any 9′ pizza for £5 or 14′ pizza for a £10(if you can manage that at 3am after a night at Gatecrasher, I salute you). There’s not much in the way of seating, so it’s normally a buy the food and take it home job, and to be fair, the pizza generally stays warm and doesn’t go soggy in a taxi ride back to Selly Oak.

Based on the ever popular Broad Street, and within easy walking distance to all the bars and late night clubs, a cheap convenient eatery. You may ask what’s a veggie doing in here. I’ve never had a kebab, and don’t think I ever will. However, they do have pizza’s, which aren’t that bad. £4.99 for a veggie feast, and they have a good choice of extras available. Discounted food, cheap as chips. The drink bottles aren’t cold though, coming straight out of the fridge, it makes you wonder. Overall, a quick and OK place to eat when on a night out, but I wouldn’t go back. Plenty of other choice within walking distance, with better customer service.
