Jyoti Vegetarian Restaurant

I always ate at jyotis for many years! But my last visit was a bad experience the food was horrible the mixed bhajia was so dry I nearly choked onit! And the galab Jaman where had a sour taste to them! What has happened to there classic flavour? Come on guys you had set a high standard. To drop like this is really disappointing, especially as I spent more then £35 pounds and my guests were not impressed at all!!!

I had a quick break from my beauty appointments at a salon across the road. I went for a very quick bite to eat. I had the pani puri and spring rolls. I did want the indian tea with my snacks but unfortunately they only serve tea with main meals. The food was so tasty. I loved it. Especially with it being a vegetarian restaurant. The lady that served me was really polite and kind. Perhaps the other staff in the restaurant could have given service with a little smile. Just saying.

BEST DOSA EVER! I went to this place along with 3 others because am a fan of Jamie Oliver and had read somewhere that this is his fave Indian Veg place in Birmingham. One of my friends is a big meat and potatoes guy and wasn’t too keen on going here, but we convinced him to give it a go and since he hasn’t eaten much South Indian before, suggested he get dosa as a main, and we got idli as starters.
OMG, this food is so fresh and good! It was just perfectly soul satisfying bites of perfection. Not only was my belly happy, but each bite I took, made my soul sing in bliss. The idlis were steamed to perfection. The masala dosa was awesomeness in a bite, esp as it also didn’t feel oily at all. The sambar was authentic, as was the chutney. Just excellent food, as was the mango lassi.
The real kicker of course, is that my friend, the meat and potatoes guy? Well, he wanted to go back here, our last night in Brum, and all three of us stood open mouthed in surprise at his suggestion, but yeah, we went back and it was as good as before. So, can’t wait to visit here again.
PS– the proprietors are really lovely, it’s family run, they use good ingredients, take pride in their cooking and the restaurant, and it shows.

I met a friend here for a few snacks and a catch up. There is a Indian sweet shop at the front and the dining area is at the back.
We ordered Mixed Bhajiya which was 6 assorted fritters with tamarind sauce, paneer spring rolls and mogo chips. The food tasted nice some of the fritters tasted very similar to each other and were quite dry, the mogo chips were quite hard but tasted ok.
The tables were clean, waiter service was ok, bathrooms could be better, food was nice… it was ok in general but nothing amazing!

A great Indian sweet centre and restaurant. I love their thali dishes, which is a little mix of lots of main dishes. If you have a sweet tooth then try their Indian sweets I love to indulge in their barfi. For those who may not know barfi is a milk powder and coconut based sweet and almost any flavour can be added to it; from fruits to nuts! I’ve learnt that it’s best to get the sweets during the day and what ever you do DO NOT go during Diwali or a few days before. The place is packed! And they run out of products a lot quicker
I liked that the wait on food wasn’t very long and the food tasted fresh. The staff was friendly although they didn’t seem to have any interest in being there.

I have to admit, I love Indian food but I had never heard of a restaurant dedicated to vegetarian Indian food! When my friend recommended we got a take away for her Birthday meal (she’s a vegetarian) I was a little sceptical as I had vision of spicy lettuce platters!
However, the food was surprisingly delicious and I actually really enjoyed it. I could taste so many ingredients which I often don’t notice perhaps because I’m too busy chewing chicken! I opted for the Puri and Aloo Curry with Mango which is a potato curry that comes served with four fluffy fried breads and mango pulp. I normally only use mango as a side dipping sauce for a poppadum but it added such a unique flavour to my main meal.
Overall my experience was fresh, tasty and because I didn’t eat meat, the calorie count was a lot lower than normal. I can’t promise I’ll become a full vegetarian but I will definitely try this again.

If you’re a fan of Indian food, Guajarati delicacy in particular, then you’re bound to love what Jyoti’s restaurant has to offer. It’s a quaint family eatery with simplistic and clean décor, and polite yet reserved staff. There is some parking outside although side-​street parking is plentiful.
It’s also a take-​away, so as you enter there is an Indian sweets counter. If you dine in, you have a vast range of dishes to choose from at very reasonable prices. I often order a variety of snacks to eat a tapas-​style meal, which gives you the opportunity to try out numerous dishes with a rich blend of flavours. But favourites are the chilli paneer and spicy mogo chips!
Don’t be put off if you’re a keen meat-​eater — so am I! But Jyoti’s is testament to how varied and delicious vegetarian food can be.

Jyoti Indian vegetarian restaurant has, in recent years, had a location shift from one end of the Stratford Road to the other in Hall Green. The new premises are smarter and more modern inside and I was worried that some of the Jyoti charm might have been lost. Traditionally this was the veggie curry place for me and my mates over the years.
I didn’t need to worry however as once again, on a recent visit, all the food was exceptional. Having been to India over Christmas and been treated to all things wonderful regarding Indian vegetarian food I have needed a fix now and again. Jyoti fills the void and I can heartily recommend any of the dishes — the thali is really good value and you then get to try several flavours. A visit isn’t complete without treating yourself to a puri, paratha or both to accompany your meal — simply the best in Brum.
With dishes marked especially for vegans this is an exceptional addition to Birmingham’s curry scene. Even if you are not vegetarian I’m not sure you could find anything wrong with this place. Go!

Fresh and inviting restaurant with friendly staff. Eight of us went for Sunday lunch today, taking our own wine and beer and ordered set meals. £15 per head provided more delicious food than we could eat. Excellent — we’ll be back.
