It seems almost impossible not to grind to a halt in bewilderment when you see a sign in the middle of an indoor marked ‘Café and Chinese Food’. The combination sounds very odd indeed, but when you walk past this offbeat little eatery, it’s difficult not to be enticed by its scent. The menu here is changed on a daily basis and the staff offer a mix of traditional café grub and authentic Chinese dishes. The seating area is made up of plastic chairs underneath a small canopy and feels sort of makeshift, but the kitchen is spotlessly clean, the staff are friendly and in my experience, whether you go for a full English fry-up or a chicken Chow Mein, the food’s always delicious. My only bugbear with the place is that there’s usually only one person serving, which can really crank up wait times if ever it gets busy, especially around noon.
