Hard To Find Whisky

Hard To Find Whisky, is a rather new addition to the Jewellery Quarter, located on Warstone Lane. The shop feels like a luxury jewellers; the walls a filled with well lit locked glass cabinets and there’s even a buzzer to allow customers in and out of the locked door.
These cabinets house whisky rather than jewels, but the price tags still go up as high. Items of note were a one of only 500, numbered bottle that retails at £35,000(!) and a box set designed by pop artist Peter Blake. There’s a chesterfield sofa in the corner, where one can imagine quite easily get comfortable drinking whisky and smoking cigars.
In the central space are unlocked shelves stocked with the more ‘everyday’ whiskies, that one can buy without first selling a kidney. Although one can find a fairly good selection of whiskies at most supermarkets these days, where HTFW stands out is knowledge and passion. It is a place where one could go with many (whisky related) questions and feel reassured that Joe will be able to answer. He will help you to discover your own flavour profile and direct you towards other bottles that you might like.
If you’re a diehard whisky collector then you’ve probably already been to this place and you don’t need me to say. If you like whiskies and want to discover more, it’s definitely worth a visit. If you want to get totally wasted for as cheap as possible — you’re probably better off down the ‘Cash & Carry’!
I think that having to buzz for entry may unfortunately have a negative effect by putting off some browsers, and potential customers. I’m sure those after the high-​ticket bottles won’t have a problem, but those after a bottle of say Jack Daniels; are they really ready for the kind of commitment that buzzing insinuates?
Oh and if you want to buy me a bottle for Christmas, I certainly wont complain!

I love this place. We took part in an event here tasting 5 different varieties of Whiskey. Whilst I am not the worlds biggest fan of Whiskey I found the information and variety fascinating.
The staff really know their stuff and the selection they have is amazing. There is even a limited edition bottle of Whiskey of which there are only 500 in existence worth £35,000 in there.
If Whiskey is your thing you HAVE to visit here as you will be blown away, if it isn’t i still recommend just popping in to have a look, you will not be disappointed.

This smart looking unit stood empty for about 6 months before things started occurring… It was only a matter of time before someone moved in, but what would it be? Around the shop is a photography studio, a beautician, a barber, a wedding dress shop and lots of Jewellers… What kind of business would move in with all of that around. I was both pleased and surprised to see this specialist merchant move into this pride of place unit. Hard To Find Whisky is a little slice of luxury in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter.
The exterior of the shop is well lit and gives a little taste of what you will find inside. Lovely large windows show off some of the shops high end stock and the signage screams expense and wonder. You can’t just wander in, you have to be buzzed in by the staff (the reason for this is clear as soon as you step inside).
Lovely tartan carpets, a leather chesterfield sofa and rows and rows of dark wood shelving hold (literally) hundreds of thousand pounds worth of Whisky. Joe (one of the lovely staff members) informed us that this shop is literally the only one of its kind in the country, offering bottles rare, specialist and high end (as well as your well known favourites).
As well as single malt whisky, you can grab blends, Bourbons and moonshine from all over the world. Bottles and gift sets start from a very respectable £15 and go all the way up to £35,000 for a single bottle. The shop also does tastings, ranging from a £20 starter tasting to a £1000 tasting of some of their rarest bottlings and malts.
We grabbed a bottle of the English Whisky Companies «Chapter number 9» for just under £30 (with 10% off), but you can get anything from Japanese to Irish whisky here and truly find a unique gift for someone (or yourself, obviously). As well as whisky’s and giftsets, you can also get hold of glasses and decanters (including the same style of glass from the SciFi classic «Bladerunner»).
Whether you’re a beginner, a novice or an expert; the staff will guide you towards a style of whisky to suit your budget and taste. Their tastings are based around what you like in terms of texture, smell and taste (rather than price tag), meaning you might just be turned on to this wonderful liquid more than you thought.
A trip to HTF is highly recommended. It’s the only shop of it’s kind in the country and it’s simply beautiful.

A buzzer entry lets you into a deceptively large tartan carpeted room.
Two gondola units in the middle of the store are the mainstream products with plenty of posh bottled of whisky to choose from. Around the walls are floor to ceiling glass cabinets which contain REALLY expensive bottles. I half imagine there’s a SWAT around the corner ready to pounce on anyone that touches the glass.
This is a hobby to many and its a rather expensive one.
The sales area is actually looks like a bar with three bar stools for the serious visitor and one corner has a lovely sofa which I didn’t dare sit on. (I’m informed it’s a Chesterfield)
On Duty was an informed friendly manager with lots of information to give you confidence in your purchase/​investment.
I expect people will travel hours to visit this lovely store and they will be rewarded.

If you like whisky then you really must visit this shop! Despite it’s name, it is actually quite easy to find, at the top of Caroline st. and not far from the clock tower.
It is a very smart plush shop with some real high end bottles! Infact the most whisky on sale in the uk apparently and they are still adding to their stock! If you want to buy a present or just fancy something a bit different for yourself, then you must come here-​the staff know there stuff:)
