Drinks are lovely, the Food needs work. This is a regular place for an after work, or weekend evening drink and is friendly, welcoming and warm(especially under the heaters outside in the back courtyard). I love the Bloom Gin and Fentimans Tonics that come in goblet glasses garnished with strawberries, or a choice from the decent wine list. It’s a nice venue that links into the Kitchen Garden Café at the back and it’s often a good spot for some local and visiting acoustic live music. I’ve tried tapas style food from the new menu but sadly wasn’t very impressed; undercooked sweet potato chips were a lowlight. The ideas are good, the execution needs work.

Fletchers is a cute little bar and restaurant located in Kings Heath. Although it looks dark and quiet on the outside, it was quite lively on the inside. I booked a table for 3 on a Wednesday night. Booking isn’t necessary, but I wanted a guarantee we didn’t have to wait. We had a server come to our table to take our drink and food order, which is a nice option instead of being at the mercy of the bartender. We started with a round of margaritas. I thought they were delicious, but my company thought they needed more tequila. We had 3 tapas dishes: mussels, butternut squash and feta, and some lightly fried halloumi cheese. The food came out quickly and was very fresh. No heat lamps here! My main was a mushroom and hallioumi burger with a side of chips. As you can see, I love halloumi. The burger was good but I wish there was more cheese and less mushroom. The dessert menu was not much as they only had two options the night we dined. It has a great cocktail menu for a little pub type place. Margaritas, martinis, and adult milkshakes! I stuck with margaritas as I loved them. And the final bonus was the 10% discount with my independent Birmingham card! Bottom line, if you’re looking for a cool casual place with a nice tapas selection and great cocktails, head to FLETCHERS!

I’ve been meaning to try Fletcher’s(run by the same team who run the amazing Kitchen Garden Café) ever since it opened and finally got around to it last night when I took my boyfriend there for his birthday meal. At first we felt a little odd as it was so quiet(it was a Tuesday night after all), but people soon started to come in. Staff were very friendly and attentive, I ordered the chicken which came in a creamy mushroom sauce with mash and veg and my other half ordered the steak and chips, both were visually impressive and tasted amazing! We tried a bit of each other’s meals and I think the chicken swung it slightly although the steak was cooked to perfection. Initially my boyfriend thought he didn’t have enought chips but then struggled to finish them so I think the portions were spot on. We had a lovely bottle of sauvignon blanc which was fresh, fruity and light. For dessert we made short work of white blondie and the suprisingly delicious chocolate and beetroot brownie — yum! I was very impressed with Fletcher’s and will definitely heading back there soon!

Another one?! Really, York Road, share the wealth! If the street was flooded I think you could still jump from bar to bar from one of the road to the other! That being said, Fletchers is AOK. It is only a pup right now(as of this review I think it’s only been open about a week) but hopefully it will grow over time. It has a nice bright open kind of feel to it, it would be a nice place for a quick bite and a pint before moving on to the Hare for a night out. As mentioned before it is owned by the same peeps who run the Kitchen Garden Café so you know it is in good hands. I’m not sure if there is anything there to make it stand out from all of the other places just yet but it makes a nice change and it’s definitely worth checking out if you are in the neighbourhood.

I popped along to Fletchers last night — it was their opening night and I’ll be honest I was hoping for a free drinkie or bar snack of some kind but alas, this wasn’t to be. Instead I had a pint of the best Bitburger I’ve had in ages and a nice sit down in their garden. It’s certainly a pleasant enough place but even with the nice weather(which meant that the benches outside the Hare and nearby Cherry Reds were both packed with people soaking up what may be the only sun we get for a while) it never got very busy. The décor veers towards the bland — but there’s some nice touches and you get the same KGC vibe. Staff were lovely and it was an okay way to see in the evening but I think(as the last reviewer suggested) they may need to offer a certain something else to tempt the hipsters of Kings Heath away from the Hare.

Upping the ante on York Road as somewhere to have a drink and eat food is Fletcher’s. Run by the same people behind The Kitchen Garden Café, Fletcher’s is described as a ‘Bar & Eatery’. I’m not sure about how much demand there is for another place to have a drink and get some food on York Road, as this new-to-open café-bar is running in direct competition with The Hare & Hounds, Cherry Reds, and with the The Kitchen Garden Café itself, as well as a couple of balti restaurants. The opening hours hint that the owners will be running KGC by day and Fletcher’s by night, therefore catering for their regulars by offering them two different venues, while pulling in custom from inquisitive customers from The Hare & Hounds over the road at night-time. And pulling in inquisitive customers from all round Kings Heath, really. It’s easy enough when a new bar opens to start off well, as people flood in wanting the kudos of being associated with the new kid on the block. How will Fletcher’s weather? What originality will they bring? What will be their unique selling point? Well, Brett and Tracey transformed a hardware shop into the tranquil, pleasant and Oasis-like haven that is KGC, so they have magic in their hands. Will this place be your new evening hang-out?
