One of Birmingham’s most epic bus journeys is nowhere near as long as it used to be these days. The 79 used to run from Bull Street in Birmingham all the way to Wolverhampton through Handsworth, West Bromwich and Wednesbury. Locally notorious for trouble, it has now been shortened and only runs to West Bromwich with a new service, the 75 taking over the Birmingham-West Brom leg of the trip. This is no great loss to be honest as it’s not a very nice bus journey at the best of times and if you were planning on travelling from Wolverhampton into Birmingham then the only slower alternative to the 79 would be walking. The part of the route the 79 still does is probably the least painful(although it still takes a fair old while) because it doesn’t deal with the traffic nightmare that is Soho Road. If you DO insist on taking this route between Wolves and Brum however, you’ll now have to change at West Brom.
