Specialties
A passion for food and art in-keeping with the age-old tradition in Parisian cafes and brasseries that saw bohemian artists receiving free food (and wine, of course) in exchange for hanging their latest artwork on the wall.
Head Chef Andrea Betto uses his own classic recipe to make the pizza bases before using da Scalzo’s home-made tomato and basil sauce as the foundation for some of the classic pizzas on our menu, essential to a good London pizza and pasta restaurant; the universally popular Margherita for sheer, delicious simplicity, the Florence-inspired Fiorentina with egg and spinach and the Quattro Stagioni representing the four seasons with artichokes, mushroom, ham and sausage.
As a London pasta restaurant of choice, we believe that simple is the best method. Each ingredient must be allowed to speak for itself. Andrea has that instinctive Italian way with pasta as well and understands just how to blend the flavours so that each one has its moment.
History
Established in 2008.
Da Scalzo’s founders, Italian brothers Robert and Enzo Scalzo launched their all-day brasserie and gallery concept having made their name with their hugely successful chain of cafes, Patisserie Valerie.
The Scalzo brothers acquired the original Patisserie Valerie in Soho in 1987. They then proceeded to expand the brand over the next two decades to a chain of eight cafes and three franchises. They sold Patisserie Valerie in 2006.
At Da Scalzo, the brothers were able to combine their infectious passion for good food and contemporary art.
We like to follow suit by displaying contemporary artwork on the walls of our pizzeria ristorante in Belgravia and our patisserie in Knightsbridge. We also regularly hold exhibitions and private viewings.
All works of art on display at Da Scalzo are for available for purchase. Since our launch, we have held displays for artists such as Eliza Andrews, Hugh Cronyn, David Eustace and John Bratby. Art dealers are welcomed one and all too!
Meet the Business Owner
Roberto S.
Business Owner
Roberto and his brother Enzo, were former owners, along with their other brother Victor, of the famous Patisserie Valerie group. When we sold the chain, we decided to come back into catering and open a restaurant with our roots in mind, we have a love of food and meeting people and we enjoy the buzz. Enzo loves his art and Roberto loves music, a good combination at the restaurant.
